Having opened our doors in 202, we currently have 675 students on roll of which are in the Class of 208. Chinese students make up the great majority of the student body. In line with Dulwich College in London s educational philosophy, the high school offers a challenging academic and holistic educational approach to its students. This is centred on an enhanced English National Curriculum (ENC) leading to externally assessed International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations at the end of Year (Grade 0). The students progress to the UK s Advanced Level (A-Level) qualification, awarded by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) & Edexcel. The school delivers an extensive co-curriculum incorporating sports, music and performing arts that allows students to develop their creativity along with teamwork and leadership skills. The language of instruction is English, and every student benefits from a structured cultural programme preparing them for life at universities abroad. The Dulwich Network DHSZ is one of ten international schools in Asia that operate in partnership with Dulwich College in London and together make up Dulwich College International (DCI). Every year Dulwich College in London inspects DHSZ, along with all other Dulwich international schools. School Calendar The school year is 8 days, running from mid-august to mid-june. It is divided into two terms. Grading We do not rank our students or calculate grade point averages. In all courses, student progress is internally assessed each semester using pre-established, standards-based performance levels. This includes traditional tests as well as assessments of group tasks, presentations, projects and other skills. A-Level and IGCSE courses conclude with externally assessed examinations. Academic Programmes IGCSE - Years 0 and (Grades 9 and 0) Students participate in a compulsory common core consisting of mathematics, physics, English and chemistry/biology. They choose an additional two subjects at the IGCSE level. Students participating in the one-year accelerated IGCSE program take five compulsory subjects. A-Level - Years 2 and (Grades and 2) Most students study four AS courses in year 2, taking three of these through to A-Level in Year. In addition, all students study an internally assessed English course, incorporating academic English, critical thinking and discussion skills. This is designed to ensure that students are well prepared to integrate and participate at university. Compulsory Co-Curricular Activities All students are required to take part in mandatory drama classes to develop selfconfidence and communication skills. Life skills classes are embedded into the curriculum to better prepare students for university life after high school. Phys Ed is required for all students. Through our House System, students learn to work well as individuals within a team. S H A N G H A I B E I J I N G S U Z H O U S E O U L Z H U H A I S I N G A P O R E Y A N G O N

Co-Curricular Activities Arts, drama, music, sport and community service play an essential role at DHSZ. We encourage students to take part in any of the 60+ activities we offer in both sports and skills categories, with many students working towards earning the International Award (Duke of Edinburgh Award). Leadership opportunities include prefects, student council, club leaders and sports team captains. Academic enrichment includes trips, academic contests, extended essays and projects. English In Year 0 (Grade 9), students follow an intensive intermediate English course, with levels linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In Year (Grade 0), students follow an accelerated Cambridge International Examinations IGCSE English as a Second Language curriculum. During Years 2 and (Grades and 2), the inter-disciplinary upper school English programme develops not only communicative competencies but also academic English and a broad range of critical thinking skills. Students are engaged in seminar-type discussions and further their abilities to work in a variety of guided, independent and collaborative contexts. The programme is designed to ensure students have the skills and confidence to fully engage in undergraduate academics. Year 2 English Academic English foci include academic report writing, referencing and delivering academic presentations; concurrent cross-curricular topic areas include modern education, digital futures, conflict, the Arts, health and globalisation. Students complete two independent research projects based on a self-selected area from the topics studied and present their findings in both written and verbal forms. Year (Grade 2) Academic English Students undertake a year-long capstone project in an area of their choosing. They learn how to develop a research question, design a research instrument, deploy said instrument, and write an academic report to show their findings. The report is approximately 5000 words in length, and it includes all chapters found in a university dissertation, including literature review and methodology. Year (Grade 2) Advanced English This honours-level course is only offered to the top 0-5% of students each year. The advanced English course is designed to introduce students to a different way of viewing and analysing language as they engage in universitylevel linguistics and literature studies, learning, for example, Universal Grammar, etymology, and sociolinguistics. The learning on this course is very much student-driven and participants are encouraged to explore and research their own areas of interest under guidance from the teacher. Drama The four-year compulsory Drama programme is designed to develop students confidence, creativity and collaboration skills. Students develop and improve their communication and critical thinking abilities that are then applied to a wide range of opportunities, from public presentations to seminars and debates. Through project work, they develop research and planning expertise alongside leadership capabilities. Our alumni often cite the drama course as helping them to integrate and thrive at university.
