About Islington Community Theatre Islington Community Theatre is one of the UK s leading companies making theatre with young people. Brainstorm at the National Theatre (photography credit: Richard H Smith) We seek to make plays that speak of the teenage experience through long-term, in-depth collaboration between young people and professional theatre-makers. Our company of 75 theatremakers, aged 11-19, are all referred to us by teachers, youth workers or social workers as those who will benefit from our work. Alongside our core company, we reach a further 500 young people each year through our programme of satellite projects. These projects introduce participants to the way in which we make theatre, and act as a progression route for young people into our core company. At the heart of our work is a desire to deliveer the highest-quality work that best serve the young people we work with, as both theatre-makers and people, through a long-term commitment that means many of our members will be part of our work for up to ten years. We only make original work and we only make work that can best be made by young people. Our recent production of Brainstorm at the National Theatre was seen by over 1,300 people and has been described as "Outstanding" (The Times), "Remarkable" (The Guardian) and "Smart, entertaining and thoughtful" (The Observer). We are currently exploring plans to remount Brainstorm and to find new ways for this show to reach wider audiences across the UK. Over the next three years we want to develop a range of innovative new productions and projects that will be enable us to train the next generation of theatre-makers and reach audiences across the UK, and beyond.
