Regular School Board Meetings, December 19, 2016 Page 1 LAKE RIDGE NEW TECH SCHOOLS A moment of silence was observed. The Mission statement was recited. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Mr. Johnson called the meeting to order. Mr. Johnson called a roll call: All the board members were present and the Superintendent was present. Administrators present: Mrs. Flores, Mrs. Hubinger, Mrs. Trevino, Mr. Mikulich, and Mrs. Carlson. This is a Regular Meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Lake Ridge New Tech Schools, Lake County Indiana, December 19, 2016 at 6:05 PM, in the school board meeting room of the Education Center. Claims Minutes Treasurer Report Mr. Evans moved to consider the attached Accounts Payable Vouchers and the December 9, 2016 payroll for payment. Mr. Buckley seconded. Motion carried. Mrs. Osteen moved to consider the minutes of the November 28, 2016 regular school board meeting. Mr. Diehl seconded. Motion carried. Mr. Evans moved to consider the Treasurer Report for November 2016. Mr. Buckley seconded. Motion Carried. Reconciliation Mr. Buckley moved to consider the 1 st Midwest Self-Insurance Fund Bank Report Reconciliation as of November 30, 2016. Mr. Evans seconded. Motion carried. Reconciliation Mr. Evans moved to consider the 1 st Midwest Athletic Complex Donation Fund Bank Report Reconciliation as of November 30, 2016. Mrs. Osteen seconded. Motion carried. Tyshundae Dedeaux, Storm Lowden, and Danny Garreffa, from the Hi-Def Elements of Voice Program, performed for the board. Danny Garreffa beautifully played the guitar, Storm Lowden masterfully was on percussion as Tyshundae Dedeaux beautifully sang Mary Did You Know? The board, administrators, and audience enjoyed the performance immensely. Randy Vale, from Bramen Insurance Company, provided a presentation to the board on the 2017 Property and Insurance Policy renewals. Mr. Vale discussed the 2017 premium rates, claims submitted for 2016, and new deductible rates. Mrs. Janet Flores, Mrs. Deb Carlson, Mr. Greg Mikulich, and Mrs. Cindy Trevino provided an update on E-Learning Days. Mrs. Flores said, We have been working on implementing E-Learning, with the Indiana Department of Education, for 1 ½ years. We researched what other schools were doing to find E-Learning Models that reflect our needs. Our E-Learning program is an actual day of class for students and teachers. Students practiced logging on to the E-learning Classroom at school. Next Mrs. Flores discussed how we handle students who have no computer at home or could not log-in to

Mrs. Flores said, Because it is considered a day of class, students will be counted absent if they do not log-in to their E-Learning Classroom but each student could and should make up their work when school resumes. Each Principal discussed how their first E-Learning experience went in each building. Principals discussed the percentage of students that logged on in each building, how communication was handled between teachers and students, and areas that need improvement. Dr. Shirley commended Mrs. Flores for taking the lead on this project. Mr. Jorge Ruano gave an update on the frozen pipe issue at Calumet New Tech High School. Mr. Ruano said, Seven rooms on the second floor were affected. As of 5:30 PM this evening, we have three rooms that will not be in use tomorrow. Precision will work till 11:00 PM tonight correcting the issues. Next Mr. Ruano discussed the frozen core at Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School. Mr. Ruano said, The frozen core was caught early and taken care of before major damage could happen. Professional Development Recommended Bonnie Williams attend the What s New In Young Adult Literature Workshop on March 3, 2017 in Alsip, IL with expenses paid from Title IIA. Recommended Greg Mikulich and Deb Carlson attend the Leading Schools for EL Achievement Workshop on January 23-24, 2017 in Noblesville, Indiana with expenses paid from Title III. Recommended Kyle Stephens attend the 2017 Indiana STEM Conference on January 11-12, 2017 in West Lafayette, Indiana with expenses paid from Title IIA. Dr. Shirley recommended approval of professional development items. Mr. Evans moved. Mr. Diehl seconded. Mrs. Osteen stated, Professional Development Forms, turned in to the board, should not have scribbles all over. If it is a Professional Development Form it should look professional. Motion Carried. Leave/Resignation/Employment Recommended accepting George Scott s resignation from the Bus Supervision position at Hosford Park New Tech Elementary School effective December 6, 2016. Recommend accepting LeAnne Frey s resignation from the Head Start Teacher Assistant position effective January 9, 2017. Recommended accepting Mahmud Issa s resignation from the Hi-Def Site Coordinator position effective November 17, 2016. Recommended Jenny Rhodes be employed as the Bus Supervisor at Hosford Park New Tech Elementary School effective December 6, 2016.

Recommended Eric Dillion be employed as the Hi-Def Site Coordinator at Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School effective December 19, 2016. Recommended Lamario Richards be employed as the Business Facilitator at Calumet New Tech High School effective December 19, 2016 pending background check. Dr. Shirley recommended approval of leaves/resignation/employment items. Mrs. Osteen moved. Mr. Evans Seconded. Dr. Shirley said, Please keep George Scott in our prayers. He is very ill. Mrs. Osteen said, I am sad to see Mrs. Frey leave. Motion Carried. New Business School Improvement Recommended approval of Calumet New Tech High School s updated School Plan Improvement Plan. Recommended approval of Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School s updated School Improvement Plan. Recommended approval of Hosford Park New Tech Elementary School s updated School Improvement Plan. Donation Recommended accepting a $125.00 donation from First Midwest Bank for Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School s Athletic Fund. Purchase Recommended approval to submit a purchase order to purchase a Maintenance Order Truck with a snow plow package in the amount of $36,600.00 paid from the \ General Fund. Recommended approval to submit a purchase order to AdvancED in the amount of $11,000.00 for review services for accreditation at Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School paid from the SIG Grant. End of Year Recommended permission for the Business Manager to conduct end of the year Transactions transactions for 2016. Transfer Students Head Start Grant Recommend approving the attached list of Non-Resident Transfer Students at Longfellow New Tech Elementary School. Recommended approving the revised Head Start Supplemental Funds to Extend Duration of Services Grant.

Regular School Board Meetings, December 19, 2016 Page 4 Insurance Recommended approving the Property, Auto, Liability, E&O, Law Enforcement Renewal Insurance Renewal for 2017. Dr. Shirley recommended approval of new business items. Mr. Evans moved. Mr. Buckley seconded. Mrs. Osteen said, Under Item A, Description of Schools, page 4, it still lists that we have three elementary schools. Mr. Evans said, The School Improvement Plan for Calumet should be changed from Calumet High School to Calumet New Tech High School on all the paperwork. This will make Calumet consistent with the other schools in the district. Motion carried. Legislative Report Dr. Shirley stated that she had an opportunity to hear the new State Superintendent, Jennifer McCormick. Dr. Shirley said, I am very hopeful that she will be on the side of education. She was a former school district superintendent. She promised me that she would come to Northwest Indiana. Dr. Shirley continued by stating she placed legislative information in the board packet. Discussion Mr. Johnson opened the floor to the community. There were no comments from the community. Mr. Buckley said, Mr. Ruano has a handle on the problems at the high school and middle school. Hopefully we will not have any more. Mr. Evans said, The boardroom bulletin board, decorated by Head Start, is very cute and appropriate for this time of year. Congratulations to Alyssa Vargas for winning the Lily Scholarship. Mr. Evans concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Mrs. Osteen Congratulated Alyssa Vargas for winning the Lily Scholarship. Mrs. Osteen reminded everyone that there is a choir concert tomorrow, 6:00 PM at Calumet New Tech High School and there is a band concert Thursday, December 22 at 7:00 PM. Mrs. Osteen wished everyone a great holiday. Mr. Diehl wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Mr. Diehl said, May we never forget the greatest gift humanity has ever received, Merry Christmas to all. Mrs. Flores congratulated Malik Hale for being accepted to Indiana University s Groups Scholars Program. Mrs. Flores said, We have 5 more students in the running for acceptance to this program. Mrs. Flores extended prayers to George Scott and Eric Worthington for their personal issues during this holiday season. Mrs. Flores concluded by

Mrs. Hubinger wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Dr. Shirley thanked Calumet New Tech High School students, which included wrestlers, basketball players, cheerleaders, and dance team members, for visited the Vet Center this past Saturday to pass out gifts and sing Christmas Carols. Dr. Shirley asked everyone to keep George Scott in their prayers. Dr. Shirley thanked the board members for her birthday flowers. Mr. Johnson thanked the principals for their update on E-Learning and Jeorge Ruano for his update on the issues at the high school and middle school. Mr. Johnson congratulated Malik Hale and Alyssa Vargas for their awards. Mr. Johnson said, The class of 2017 has received quite a few scholarships and most of those are academic. Mr. Johnson thanked the North Newton Athletic Director. He called to make sure we got home safely after the boys basketball game because travel conditions had deteriorated during the evening. Mr. Johnson concluded my wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Adjournment With no further business to come before the board this evening Mr. Evans moved to adjourn the meeting.
