Press Release: Immediate release 6 Dec 2015(Sunday) Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2015 Award Ceremony App Development Competition for Tertiary Students Renowned artist Sammy Leung and singer Mag Lam as ambassadors Media partners are cordially invited to attend Selected winning apps will soon be available at the Samsung Galaxy App Store to help students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) With the theme of Boundless Love With Intelligence, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2015 is a platform for tertiary students to unleash their potential in developing apps to help SEN children to integrate into the community. As the competition has come to an end, the Award Ceremony, along with apps exhibition, will be held on 6 December (Sunday) at Hung Hom Fortune Metropolis. We cordially invite you as our media partners to join the event and to show our support to the contestants. More than 130 tertiary students participated into Solve for Tomorrow 2015. With help and support from the Samsung s platform, the shortlisted teams joined several activities and met with experts from different backgrounds in the past 5 months. With creativity and capability, these students integrated their knowledge from school and from their experience in these organized activities, which helped them develop apps that cater to the needs of SEN students. As the competition proceeded, 8 teams were shortlisted to meet with the judges for their final
presentation held in mid-november. Their work has been carefully scrutinized by the judging panel and a final ranking was consequently released This year, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2015 has invited renowned artist Sammy Leung and singer Mag Lam as ambassadors to present awards and certificates to our contestants at the Award Ceremony. A video of three stories starring Sammy Leung will be shown at the ceremony to reflect on the challenges experienced by SEN students. On top of that, young artist Michael Lai will also be present to encourage youngsters to bravely pursue their dreams through his performances. In light of arousing public awareness of SEN children in the community, Samsung has specifically started a donation campaign in which a donation page has been set up on the Solve for Tomorrow 2015 website. For each viewer's click on the "I support" button on the website, Samsung will donate HKD 10 to Heep Hong Society as an initiative to help SEN children with their education (Donation cap HK$300,000). I SUPPORT donation activity has been ended on Dec 5th raising around HK$210,000 donation funds. In view of the education needs of the beneficiary, Heep Hong Society decided the donation funds on acquiring learning equipments. Therefore, Samsung Electronics H.K. Winners List Champion: WHATisLOVE - Chinese University of Hong Kong App Name: GalaxyMaze Description: Through the game of a maze, the app aims to improve learning efficiency of SEN students by helping them overcome three main areas of weaknesses commonly experienced: low attention span, hyperactivity and lack of short term memory.
1 st Runner-up: SEN Zone - Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong App Name: Sharp-eyed: Coin Adventure Description: The app is featured with a theme of aliens and elements of a shopping. Through analyzing the data collected through users' gaming activity, the app reflects on the level of concentration of SEN students. It aims to educate SEN children on how to effectively spend money wisely and improve their consumption habits. 2 nd Runner-up team: CityUytiC - City University of Hong Kong App name: Color Monster Description: Color Monster is an app that has been developed with inspirations drawn from a traditional card game. Users will be asked a question in which a hint will be given to guide them through the process. Three types of questions will be asked to maintain a high level of content and interests by the users Merit Award: Brilliant Word Learning Helper - Hong Kong University of Science and Technology App Name: SpaceWord Introduction: Space word is composed of five major components. The goal of the game is for the users to eliminate monsters while trying to hide away from their attacks. Special Award (institutes with the most participants): Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and City University of Hong Kong *The selected winning apps will soon be available at the Samsung Galaxy Apps Store for free download to help student with SEN.
