WWWOOOOOHHHH. Halloween is on its way. The Shakedown Car and Bike show was a huge success. I would like to thank Cheryl Usiles and the Patriot Pin Up girls for all their hard work. Jocelyn and the kitchen crew did a fantastic job in feeding over 175 burgers with all the fixings to the large crowd. None of this could have happened without Jeff Chapple and his amazing crew who cleaned the parking lots so that this event could take place. Big thanks to all of you for putting this together. Let s go out, get a few new members, and let s retain the old ones. Remember that one equals five when we talk to Congress. For my final word: What do you get when you divide the circumference of your jack-o -lantern by its diameter? Give up??? Pumpkin Pi! Veterans helping Veterans is what we are all about, and this Post is your Post. Please let me know if you have any ideas that will make this post even greater. AUXILIARY ACTREP (continued from page 1) As many of you know, our By-Laws have been changed recently. If you let your membership lapse, you will be required to resubmit your application and be voted on to rejoin. I thought this would be a good time to remind everyone what being an Auxiliary member is. Your membership is a voice for veterans, locally and on Capital Hill. We are instrumental in assisting the VFW pass or block legislation that impacts veterans and their families. Our local Auxiliary aids veterans and their families in need, we offer youth scholarships and educate our youth about the American Flag, and much more. If you haven t renewed your annual membership, now is the time to renew. Please do so before the end of the year. As a side note, if you are an Officer or Chairman you will need to renew your annual membership before the end of the year to retain your position. October brings cooler weather and of course, Halloween. Alicia Wherry, our Youth Activities Chairman is busy planning the youth Halloween Party. Please check the calendar for the date and time. She will be needing volunteers, so if you like working with the young, please contact her. I hope to see many of you at the next meeting. We are always looking for input on what we can do as an Auxiliary to help our veterans and their families. As the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars motto says: Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes. ON PATROL As we approach Veterans Day and the parade honoring our veterans, know that the ON PATROL Project is still alive and well. Last year we had six participants in the parade; starting with an 1855 First Sergeant from Ft. The Dalles and ending with a 2010 period U.S. Marine Corps Rifleman / Designated Marksman. In between them we hosted representatives for the First World War, the Second World War, and the Vietnam War. A huge THANK YOU to all who participated and/or assisted. This year I am pleased to announce that we have a riderless horse and seven probable participants thus far and up to four possible players that I have not firmed up yet. That being said, we can always use more volunteers. If you are not already doing something to support our Post s participation in the Veterans Day parade, please join Brian O Connor The On Patrol Project Chairman 541-699-8664 us. The Post needs Flag Bearers, Banner Bearers, and dressed-out Veteran Representatives for our ON PATROL group. Incidentally, you don t have to even be a veteran to patrol with us; you just have to be willing to honorably represent an American Veteran. Best Regards Brian O Connor, Chairman HONOR GUARD The Post Honor Guard continues to provide military honors for our fellow veterans and their families. The Honor Guard is made up of Post volunteers and is an excellent way to get involved in the Post. We also perform a monthly Taps Ceremony on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 4:30 p.m. at Redmond Hospice Wall of Honor and 5:00 p.m. at Redmond Memorial Cemetery. One of the Honor Guard members participates as bugler with any veterans and family members present to honor those veterans no longer with us. This is a short 5-10-minute ceremony, so plan to come out and participate when you can. Gravesite flags: We have inventoried the veteran gravesite flags. Our goal is to obtain all 8" x 12" x 24" flags on a 5/16" shaft so all gravesites are consistent. We currently have enough 8" x 12" flags to cover Terrebonne Pioneer Cemetery. We need to obtain 1000 8" x 12" flags for Redmond Memorial Cemetery. At $76.00 a gross, we hope to fund raise enough money to obtain the flags by Memorial Day 2019. Galen Wisdom Aka Surf & Turf Seam Squirrel, Pup Tent 8 541-604-0388 Hello fellow Ladybugs and Gentleman bugs, Now that summer is officially over, I hope we can focus more strongly on our Veterans Homes and Hospitals. We were graced by the Grand President Kathy McCauley for our yearly inspection and passed of course! Thanks to our great Secretary/Treasurer! It was great meeting our Grand President and I hope to see her again! With the bad weather upon us, keep all the homeless Veterans in our thoughts and prayers. For our Older Veterans, remember not all have families that are close and may need some assistance when the snow flies!! All that being said, we need to reach out to our members and let them know we care!
