AP Computer Science AP CSP benefits students traditionally underrepresented in computer science

Pre-AP Program Pre-AP is a new program that offers instructional resources and classroom-based assessments to schools that are interested in earning an official Pre-AP designation from the College Board. Courses include: Algebra 1, Biology, English 1, World History and Geography, Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts) Applications for participation for Fall 2019 available. Interest Form for offering the program for Fall 2020 can also be submitted now and you will be contacted when that implementation cycle opens

Digital Activation What s new in 2019-20? AP teachers and students will sign in to our new support system and complete a simple activation process at the start of the school year. Give students and teachers access to the new resources Provide full access throughout the school year Allow teachers to organize their AP students by the sections they teach

Streamlined Ordering What s new in 2019-20? A new online system will make exam registration and ordering easier. AP coordinators will receive rosters of students to use for exam ordering. AP coordinators can order exams with one click.

Personalized Labels What s new in 2019-20? Schools will get personalized labels for students, which will shorten the length of the answer sheet and reduce time spent bubbling student information.

2019-20 Timeline: Overview

Exam ordering deadlines Three key deadlines for ordering 2020 exams. Deadline Preferred Deadline October 2019 Final Deadline November 2019 Spring Course Orders and Fall Order Changes Deadline March 2020 Description Recommended deadline to submit May 2020 exam orders. Deadline to submit exam orders for all full-year and firstsemester AP courses. Each exam ordered after this deadline will incur an additional late order fee of $40 per exam Each exam canceled after this deadline will incur a cancellation fee of $40 per exam. The original exam fee will be removed from the invoice. Deadline to order exams for second-semester courses and to update the exam order with any late orders or canceled exams. The full exam fee will be billed for all AP exams that are part of a school s exam order as of this deadline, less any applicable College Board fee reduction. Alternate exams taken on late-testing dates can be ordered after this deadline if needed. A $40 per exam late-testing fee may apply in specific circumstances.

Fall Registration Why is exam registration moving to the fall? At more than half of all schools offering AP, students decide in the fall whether they are taking the AP Exam. At these schools: educators report that students are more engaged in their AP classes. students are more likely to take the exam and earn scores of 3 or higher. We piloted fall registration with more than 40,000 students in 2017-18, and saw positive impacts on participation and performance: Students in the pilot 2016 to 2017 2017 to 2018 AP Exam takers +9% +13% Underrepresented minority exam takers +13% +21% Low-income exam takers +17% +33% Exams taken by low-income students, scores of 3+ +11% +20% Exams taken by AP seniors, scores of 3+ +3% +9%

PSAT/NMSQT Score Release Educator Score Release: Educators will be able to access their students PSAT/NMSQT scores in the K 12 score reporting portal starting on Dec. 3 a week before students start receiving their scores. Mark your calendars for Score Week for Counselors 2018: Dec. 3 7 Student Score Release: Students will receive their scores over the course of 3 days, from December 10 12. Students will receive an email when their PSAT/NMSQT scores are available to be viewed.

What We Offer Direct Outreach We directly reach out to underserved students, largely firstgeneration, low-income students of color, through our access portfolio direct mail materials (i.e., college list information, financial aid guidance, fee waivers) texting nudges to encourage students to complete key steps the ability to opt in to virtual advising and mentoring from trained near-peer mentors

Virtual Advising We launched a new pilot program that will connect students with an extra layer of support that can help them on their journey to college. In May 2018, students in the class of 2019 started to receive invitations to participate in a pilot initiative. Over 20,000 students in the class of 2019 will have the opportunity to receive virtual advising via our partnerships with CollegePoint and College Advising Corps. Students are connected with virtual advisers who can help them navigate the college application and financial aid processes; the advisers are available by phone, email, chat, and text messaging.
