Lloyd Noble Center TV: Sooner Sports TV Live Stats: SoonerSports.com IN THE GYM: FIVE NOTES FOR WEEK FIVE 1. THE BIGGEST SHOW IN TOWN For the second weekend in a row, the No. 2 Oklahoma women s gymnsatics team will be part of one of the top-billed meets in the NCAA. The Sooners will welcome No. 3 LSU to Norman when the two teams face off on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1:45 p.m. in the Lloyd Noble Center. The third-ranked Tigers are the highest-ranked opponent to visit Norman since No. 1 Alabama did so on March 5, 2010 (a 197.950-197.275 Sooner win). The last time OU welcomed a top-five foe to the LNC was on Feb. 22, 2013, when the Sooners upended No. 5 UCLA to the tune of 198.375-197.200. 2. THE 197 CLUB Oklahoma continues to make its mark in the NCAA as a team as dominant on the road as it is at home. With two home meets and two away contests under their belt, the Sooners are the only team to break 197 in multiple road meets this season. Equally impressive at home, OU is one of four NCAA teams to post a 197 or higher three times this year, and the only team to post a 197.200 or higher at least three times. The Sooners earned a 197.700 in their season opener against Georgia and scores of 197.525 and 197.225 in back-to-back road meets at Arizona and Florida. 3. DYNAMIC DEPTH Oklahoma s depth has shone in its first four meets of the season, with head coach K.J. Kindler remarking on the battle for lineup spots that continues to take place each week. Representatives from every class have seen time in the competition lineup for the Sooners, with 11 different OU team members earning lineup spots for various events. An additional four Sooners have appeared in exhibition performances, gaining valuable experience down the line for Oklahoma. In total, 15 of OU s 17 team members have appeared in the lineup or as an exhibition in four meets this season. 4. VAULT STARS The Sooners have opened 2014 with their strongest start yet on vault this season, earning a team score of 49.4 or higher on the event in all four meets. The last time OU earned four consecutive 49.4+ vault scores was late February and early March of 2013 (vs. UCLA, at TWU, vs. Arizona, vs. Stanford/UNC), showing that Oklahoma is already in mid-season form with room to grow. A pair of super sophomores have led the way for assistant coach Lou Ball s vaulting corps: Keeley Kmieciak and Haley Scaman have both scored a 9.9 or higher on vault in all four meets this year. Both Scaman (No. 5) and Kmieciak (T-No. 11) are ranked in the top 15 nationally on vault. 5. TOP 10 TESTS OU s meet against the third-ranked Tigers continues a stretch that will see the Sooners face five top 10 opponents over four weeks of competition. After a meet against then-no. 2 Florida last weekend, OU will take on LSU this Sunday before challenging the Tigers again on Feb. 15 and facing No. 6 Michigan and No. 7 Alabama at the Perfect 10 Challenge on Feb. 21 in Oklahoma City. The Sooners are set to face a total of eight top 25 opponents over the remainder of the regular season, including No. 3 LSU, No. 14 Illinois and No. 20 Arizona State at home. GYMNAST TO WATCH LSU (3-1, 2-1 SEC) TIGERS REBECCA CLARK Jr. Blue Springs, Mo. (Blue Springs H.S.) Clark is one of three Sooners to earn multiple Big 12 weekly awards this season, picking up Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week accolades after a strong performance at Florida. A bars and beam specialist and returning All-American for OU, the junior is tied for eighth nationally on beam with a season average of 9.875.

Beginning Feb. 24, the ranking is done by Regional Qualifying Score, which consists of a team s three highest road scores and the next three highest scores. The high score is subtracted from the six event totals and the remaining amount is divided by five. TOP-TIER TEAM Oklahoma continues to display excellence across all four events, as evidenced in this week s national rankings. The No. 2 Sooners own top five team efforts on all four events, led by a No. 2 showing on beam (49.281). OU is also ranked No. 3 nationally on both bars (49.288) and vault (49.438). After head coach K.J. Kindler shuffled her lineup and debuted a new face on floor last week, the Sooners jumped to No. 5 overall on floor (49.288) as well. Representatives from every class pulled down appearances in the individual top 25, with seven Sooners capturing 10 total spots in the listing. Sooners in the Rankings (Feb. 3) Haley Scaman (V: 5) Erica Brewer (UB: 12, AA: 7) Taylor Spears (BB: 5) Rebecca Clark (BB: T-8) Keeley Kmieciak (V: T-11) Maile ana Kanewa (V: T-20, FX: T-20) McKenzie Wofford (UB: T-21, BB: T-1) PREVIEWING THE NO. 3 LSU TIGERS Head Coach: D-D Breaux High Score: 197.650 (vs. Alabama, Jan. 31) The LSU Tigers have not been ranked below No. 3 nationally since the first weekend of competition--after opening the year as the nation s No. 5 team in the preseason, the Tigers rose as high as No. 2 before settling at No. 3 to enter this weekend. LSU arrives in Norman following its best effort of 2014 in a 197.650-196.825 home victory over No. 7 Alabama. Highlighting the Tigers effort was a 10.0 floor routine from returning All-American Lloimincia Hall. The Tigers are led by all-arounder and defending NCAA vault champion Rheagan Courville, who is currently ranked No. 2 nationally in the all-around with an average of 39.519. Courville is joined by teammate Jessie Jordan, the country s No. 8 all-around performer, as two of seven Tiger team members to be ranked in the top 25 nationally as individuals. SERIES HISTORY: OU vs. LSU The OU/LSU series history is tied at 9-9 all-time, with the Sooners holding the upper hand in recent years. Oklahoma is 4-0 against the Tigers since 2010, with the majority of the meetings between the two schools coming in NCAA Regional or Championship competition. OU s last meeting with the Tigers came at the 2013 NCAA Super Six team finals. The Sooners took second overall with a 197.375, while LSU finished fifth at 197.050. LAST TIME OUT The Sooners posted an outstanding road score in a narrow 197.875-197.225 loss to No. 2 Florida on Friday, Jan. 31 in Gainesville. The meet served the Sooners with invaluable experience in a big-time road atmosphere. The squad performed with steadiness in front of a crowd of 7,260 fans, showing maturity and strength in their second road meet of the season. NEXT UP Oklahoma will hit the road next weekend to take part in the Metroplex Challenge at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The meet will pit the Sooners against No. 3 LSU, No. 13 Arizona and Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. CT. ALL-AMERICA The Sooners earned seven All-America awards from five gymnasts at the 2013 NCAA Championships; the squad returns four of those five this season. Erica Brewer led the way with two first team awards on bars and beam, while Rebecca Clark (bars) and Madison Mooring (vault) each picked up one first team award. Taylor Spears rounds out OU s returning All-American roster, boasting a pair of second team honors on bars and in the all-around in 2013.
