PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To provide safe and effective technical and clinical assistance to the Anaesthetist where any anaesthesia and/or sedation are administered. Primarily, this will be in the operating theatres of Middlemore Hospital and Manukau Surgery Centre in addition to external areas including the National Burns Unit, Radiology and Gastroenterology Suites. To contribute to the effectiveness of the operating theatres by fostering co-operation across the multidisciplinary teams. NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Key Accountabilities To provide professional clinical support To provide service delivery Expected Outcomes Maintain standards of practice and professional conduct within the area which meets professional, ethical and relevant legislative requirements Provide direct and indirect technical and clinical support to the anaesthetist. Ensure Anaesthetic delivery devices are checked as per policies of Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB), Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management, Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (MSCNZ) and Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). Ensure infection control and quality standards are followed in the management of anaesthetic and ancillary equipment. Demonstrates professional standards. Demonstrates knowledge of and facilitates access to policies and procedural guidelines Demonstrates and facilitates an awareness of the multicultural diversity of CMDHB Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of anaesthetic equipment and delivery devices including the ability to correctly recognised faults identified during testing, if appropriate. To complement and actively engage with the peri-operative team with patient care delivery including participation in delegated circulating tasks Maintaining full and accurate documentation Works collaboratively with staff to form and maintain a quality plan in line with CMDHB Quality Plan Demonstrates and facilitates the application of the Treaty of Waitangi to anaesthetic practice Identifies unsafe practice and responds appropriately to ensure safe outcomes. Participates in education and planning processes Provides coaching and mentoring of staff and is involved in the preceptoring Page 4 of 4

Identifying opportunities for service improvements Ensure all equipment is processed in compliance with appropriate standards and recommendations. Ensure all anaesthetic and ancillary equipment and areas are restocked and cleaned in accordance to the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine guidelines Identifying problems and issues and work with Anaesthetic Service Coordinator / Charge Technician to resolve Actively involved in compliance and identification of health and safety working practices Ensures compliance with CMDHB professional requirements i.e. annual update of relevant courses, such as Patient Safety training and ACLS Provide direct technical and clinical assistance to the Anaesthetist by identifying anaesthetic requirements for each procedure in accordance with the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine guidelines, ensuring that all equipment and consumables are available to hand during the induction of the anaesthesia. To maintain professional development(self and others) Information and systems Technology HEALTH & SAFETY Participates in annual performance review process to identify ongoing professional development. Maintains own clinical competence and complies with the requirements of CMDHB, Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, MSCNZ and ANZCA Demonstrate literacy with and the computer skills necessary to record, enter, store, retrieve and organise data essential to care delivery.
