CONVOCATION BEFORE YOUR CEREMONY 1.Apply for Graduation: Every candidate for a degree must make a formal application for graduation. 2.Find your Procession Number: This is the order in which you ll cross the stage at the ceremony so make sure you know your number before you arrive. You can find your procession number by viewing your grad application on the Student Service Centre. 3.Order Your Graduation Gown: All students are required to wear Regalia (gowns and hoods). Hats are optional. 4.Like the UBCO Graduation Facebook page: Like the UBC Okanagan Graduation Facebook page for updates and information on your Graduation Day. www.facebook.com/ubcograd 5.Reserve Seating: Due to the seating capacity of the gymnasium, students may submit RSVPs for their guests starting in March 2017. All of the information they need to know can be found at http://graduation.ok.ubc.ca/family-guests/

CONVOCATION ON THE DAY OF YOUR CEREMONY 1.Arrival: Be on campus at least 90 minutes before the start of your ceremony. 2.Where To Go: You are required to go to the Fipke Building. Here you will check in, receive your gown, and be put in procession order. 3.Personal Belongings: There is no secure storage space in the Fipke Building; please leave personal items (purses, coats, etc.) with your families! 4.Procession Prep: This is completed 45 minutes prior to the start time of the ceremony. At this time the marshal will explain the procedure for the procession. Your parchment and a name card will be given to you as you join the procession.

CONVOCATION 5.Procession March: The procession forms in two lines, each led by a marshal, and marches to the Gymnasium where the lines are reconnected and directed to the proper seats. Your position in these two lines is decided by when you will cross the stage. You MUST remain in your own line and in your original position in that line. 6.In the Gymnasium: You will be seated in the Gymnasium and will remain seated until the Faculty Procession enters. As the marshal signals the entrance of the Faculty Procession, you will rise and will then sit and rise as directed by the Chancellor and / or President. 7.Crossing the Stage: Rows of students will be directed to rise and follow the marshal to the platform. There, you ll stop and hand your name card to the Reader. As your name is read out, you pause in front of the Reader s Podium facing the audience, so that a picture can be taken of you. You then proceed across the stage, pausing to shake the hand of the Chancellor. They will say I admit you, after which you will proceed across the rest of the stage. A marshal will direct you to your seat.

GUEST INFORMATION Tickets: There will be NO tickets issued for your guests. Seats are available on a first come, first serve basis. Accessible Seating: Is available for people with limited mobility (wheelchairs, walkers).
