Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest Applicants must submit an essay about an elected official who is acting courageously to address a political issue. Open to all students, 9-12 th grade. Amount: $500-$3,000. Go to www.jfklibrary.org. The deadline is January 9, 2010. Sam Walton Community Scholarship Applications will be available online until January 11, 2010. More information and the link to apply can be found at www.walmartfoundation.org. Deadline to apply is January 11, 2010. Lamar University Mirabeau Scholars Lamar University has announced that the deadline for the Mirabeau Scholars is Friday, January 15, 2010. The deadline for academic scholarships is February 1, 2010. The financial aid deadline for fall 2010 is April 1, 2010. The admissions application priority deadline is May 1, 2010. Accepted students may begin signing up for fall 2010 orientation beginning in May 2010. Texas Tech University Engineering Scholarship Students who plan to attend Texas Tech University and major in engineering should apply for this $10,000 scholarship. Applicants must be a member of and at least ¼ degree Indian blood of an American Indian tribe. The applicant must be accepted into an accredited college and demonstrate need for financial aid. The grant application is available with the education officer of the tribe of your membership. For more information, go to www.bia.edu. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2010. George Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship High school seniors who are U.S. citizens and who are planning a career of service in local, state or federal government are eligible to apply. Applicants are required to write an essay telling why they are considering a career in government. Awards are in the amount of $1,000 to $20,000. Go to www.gwcf.org for more information. The deadline is January 15, 2010. Papa John s Pizza Scholars Scholarship Longview High School seniors with 2.5+ GPA should apply for the $1,000 Papa John s Pizza Scholars Scholarship. The selection committee will consider the following: creative ability; community involvement; academic achievement; obstacles overcome; quality of character; meaningful objectives achieved; life goals and interests; demonstrated leadership and athletic achievement. The deadline for the student to submit the application to Mrs. Sauceda, the senior counselor, is January 27, 2010. Please read the instructions for the student very carefully. This application does NOT want transcripts, photos or letters of recommendation. Mrs. Sauceda must, however, complete the guidance counselor section of the application and mail by January 31, 2010. Baylor University Carr P. Collins Scholars Program Baylor University annually awards scholarships through the Carr P. Collins Scholars Program to students who have demonstrated leadership through service. Collins Scholars are awarded $4,350 each year, renewable up tot here years. To be considered for the program, applicants must: meet all university requirements for unconditional admission; have a minimum combined Critical Reading and Math score of 1250 on the SAT or a minimum of 28 on the ACT; have completed a balanced college preparatory program including history, science, and a foreign language; be in the top quarter of their graduating class; and be a resident of the state of Texas.

Baylor University Scholarships for National Merit Finalists Baylor University has an outstanding scholarship program for National Merit Finalists. Students who advance to Finalist standing in the National Merit Scholarship Competition and designate Baylor University as their first choice college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation are warded the Regents Gold Scholarship. This scholarship covers full tuition plus an additional amount ranging from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on the Finalist s SAT/ACT score. Fro students not advancing to Finalist standing, merit scholarships are available on a competitive basis through our President s Gold, Provost s Golf, Dean s Gold Scholarship programs. These scholarships range in value from $12,000 to $68,000 divided evenly over four years of undergraduate academic study. Students are considered for these awards by virtue of their application for admission to Baylor. Baylor University encourages all students to utilize Baylor s Freshman scholarship Calculator and Financial Aid Estimator at www.baylor.edu/admissions/calculator. These tools are designed to provide prospective students with the financial information they need to plan for the education at Baylor. In addition, students can learn more about how to apply for need-based grants and scholarships. Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) has established the Community Scholarship Program to meet the financial needs of students in communities that host Simon shopping centers. More than just a student s academic achievement will be considered when applications are reviewed. The program will take into consideration the future potential of each applicant, recognizing those who have made significant personal improvements or contributions to their communities. Special consideration will be given to those who are the first generation in their family to attend a postsecondary institution and those attending a two-year college or vocational-technical school. ONLY the first 6,000 applications received will be processed. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, and an outside appraisal. Unusual personal or family circumstances will also be considered in the selection process. Financial need of $1,400 as calculated by Scholarship Management Services must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. Applicants must attach a copy of page of the parents most recent tax return Form 1040.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services. In no instance does any officer or employee of Simon Youth Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final. Only recipients will be notified in May 2010. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Applicants to Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program must be High school seniors attending school and living in close proximity of a Simon Property Mall or Community/Lifestyle Center. Planning to enroll no later than fall 2010 in a full-time* undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Employees or family members of employees of Simon Property Group and affiliated partners are not eligible for this program. *Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year. Distribution of scholarship awards will be granted as follows: Up to 181 mall awards of up to $1,400 each will be granted. Up to eight (8) Community/Lifestyle Center awards of up to $1,400 each will be granted. Up to eight (8) Chelsea Premium Outlet Awards of up to $1,400 each will be granted. Eight (8) scholarships of $2,500 each will be granted to the top recipient from each of the regions specified below: Atlanta, GA Indianapolis, IN Orange County, CA Boston, MA Miami, FL Orlando, FL Dallas, TX New York City, NY Recipients will be selected to represent a cross section of Simon Property Malls geographically. Recipients should reside within the mall area or within close proximity to a mall region. Review the list of Simon Property Malls or Community/Lifestyle Centers. Recipients may receive only one (1) Simon Youth Foundation Scholarship. Awards are for undergraduate study only. Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with a current, complete transcript of grades to Scholarship Management Services postmarked no later than January 31, 2010. (Please note: Only the first 6,000 applications received will be processed.) Applicants must be a member of the Presbyterian Church, be a U.S. citizen, and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must have taken the SAT no later than December 15, 2009. Applicants will need to provide a recommendation from their pastor and guidance counselor. Award amounts range from $200 to $1,400. Texas Student Housing 2010-2011 Scholarships for 2010 High School Graduates Texas Student Housing Authority s (TSHA) academic scholarships are administered by the Board of Directors. The academic scholarship described rewards academic and leadership excellence. Family financial needs may be considered. A complete application for the scholarship consists of the application form, personal statement, official transcript, letters of recommendation and standardized tests scores. Scholarships for the academic years 2010-2011 will be limited to students who will be attending college in Austin, College Station, or Denton, Texas. Scholarship are awarded for the full or partial cost of an OFF_CAMPUS room for one academic year at the Ballpark in Austin, Town Lake in Austin, the Ridge at North Texas, and the Cambridge in College Station or at an alternate comparable facility if designated by TSH.
