MArkInG THe 40 TH AnnIverSAry Of THe HeALTH & SAfeTy AT WOrk ACT 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work Act, a landmark piece of legislation which helped to significantly improve occupational health and workplace safety. This conference features a programme of presentations to examine, celebrate and evaluate the impact of the Act, as well as to discuss and evaluate the next steps in further improving employee health. The day will feature a discussion of the advancement of health and safety in the workplace from Hugh Robertson of the TUC, while Professor Sir Anthony Newman-Taylor will focus on the effects of asbestos in the workplace. The day will also feature a session on prosecutions under the Health and Safety at Work Act from Jane Willis from the Health and Safety Executive, while Paul Williams from JCB will examine the impact of the Act on the manufacturing sector. The conference will also feature sessions on the culture and psychology of the Act from Tim Marsh, a behavioural psychologist, and sessions on occupational cancer and the effect of Health and Safety legislation on industry. The Faculty would like to encourage occupational health nurses to attend this conference and are pleased to be able to offer the concessionary registration fee to all nurses.
