AFC REGION II Region and Chapters Report November 2014 to January 2015 REGION II 2015 Executive Board: Director, Rawlslyn Francis, Florida State College at Jacksonville Director Elect, Heather Jones, St. Johns River State College Region II Overview Donated $500.00 to the Burst the Balloon AFC Foundation Recognized Unsung Heroes from FSCJ, SJRS, FGC, and SFC at Convention Except for North Florida Community College, all Chapter Presidents are active and accounted for at the start of the new year! Plans are underway for shaping the theme and conference sessions for our April 24 th Region II Conference at SJRS. Reviewed and approved our Region By Laws (emailed to La Fran) Established a Strategic Plan for 2015 (emailed to La Fran) Chapter Reports North Florida Community College No Report. Florida State College at Jacksonville Chapter President, Lindsay Ott 2014 November: Held Chapter meeting 17 FSCJ AFC members attended Convention At Convention, recognized for increase in membership numbers Unsung Hero recognition Lindsay Ott Submitted Chapter of the Year book / received Silver status 2014 December: Held Chapter meeting Elected / re elected officers for 2015 Held social gathering for Chapter officers at Mellow Mushroom to celebrate a successful 2014! We had completed more social gatherings, fundraisers, membership appreciation events, and community service activities than the previous year. 2015 January: Chapter President and Membership Chair will attend Leadership Conference Chapter will support Region II Conference by facilitating a session. We will recruit AFC members to attend the Conference in February and March. Held first Chapter meeting of the year on Jan. 22 nd.

Respectfully submitted by Lindsay Ott. Santa Fe College Chapter President, Tom Mason 2014 November/December A Holiday Social/Members meeting was held on 12/9/14 in the President s Lobby. Over 40 were in attendance and we fished off 2014 by relaxing and enjoying each other s company and some light refreshments. Elections for annual officer positions were help on 12/9/14. Elections were coordinated by Past President Debbie Blair and Nina Trombi. The final results were: Secretary, Jessica Vander Biezen Treasurer, Carol Wilson Membership Co Chair, Carol Pugh Membership Co Chair, Jason Frank The following members agreed to continue serving in their respective roles: Legislative Liaison, Chuck Clemons Historian, Chris Parks Parliamentarian, David Price Websmith, Barbara Fields Our chapter made great progress with our service project partnerships with Toys for Tots, Gainesville Ministries and St. Francis House this holiday season. We collected two bins of toys and two bins of jackets/blankets. We also agreed to help the young son with of an employee who passed this month by partnering with the Career Service Council to buy him a bike for Christmas. The state wide AFC Leadership Conference will be hosted by Santa Fe College on January 29 in the Fine Arts Hall. Please look to the AFC website and facebook page these and for future chapter activities. Chuck Clemens Legislative Liaison 2015 January The state wide AFC Leadership Conference will be hosted by Santa Fe College on January 29 30 in the Fine Arts Hall. We will kick off the New Year with our new President Dr Dan Rodkin and his theme, Finding our Voice. Topics on the agenda include, an Association overview, a Pathways to Leadership Panel that includes our very own Dr. Naima Brown, a Leading vs Managing Seminar, our Foundation update and a Legislative preview by Michael Brawer. There is a reception planned at the Hilton Conference Center at 6pm Thursday 1/29/15. Our service project will be helping the local Military Support Group. Popular items with the troops are small, nonperishable food items like beef jerky, instant oatmeal, and breakfast bars. Tom Mason and Carol Pugh will be collecting these items. AFC Legislative Days will be April 8 9 in Tallahassee. The Eboard of our chapter will meet tomorrow 1/13/15. We expect to be setting a date for our chili/soup cookoff and planning for our biggest fundraiser, Valentine s Day Carnation Sale. We hope everyone chooses to participate in these events. Respectfully submitted by Tom Mason 12/11/14 St. Johns River State College Chapter President, Myrna Allen November and December Service Projects: Domestic Violence Shelters (Lee Conlee House in Palatka, Betty Griffin House in St. Augustine, and Quigley House in Orange Park) Heart of Putnam Food Drive (277 pounds of food generously donated) Project Praise (3 Putnam County children sponsored) November and December Social Activities/Events: Cocoa and Cookie Break (Palatka, Orange Park, St. Augustine Campuses) 176 member appreciation candy canes and thank you cards delivered (Palatka, Orange Park and St. Augustine Campuses)

Chapter prizes awarded 1 hour of free horseback riding lessons at the Double J Ranch in Palatka a free round of golf and golf cart rental at Royal St. Augustine 1 one night stay at the St. George Inn in St. Augustine 2 tickets each to the St. Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum, Colonial Quarter, and the First Colony exhibition $100 gift certificate to Vernon s Restaurant, 2014 Convention Silent Auction Items Donated St. Augustine Lighthouse Gift Basket valued at $125 (4 passes, lighthouse wines & etched glasses, ornament, etc.), One Night Stay at the Marriott Courtyard, St. Augustine incl. breakfast for 2 valued from $125 to $185 depending on day used. Five new officers were elected: Amanda Brown Co Membership Chair, Pam Crowley Secretary, Octavia Evans Palatka Campus Representative, Heather Jones President Elect, and George Ann Woodward St. Augustine Campus Representative. 2015 January / Spring Plans Our Chapter will be sending three members to the Leadership Conference on January 30 and 31. We are currently planning the 2015 Region I Conference on April 24 and have completed a draft agenda. Respectfully submitted by Myrna Allen. Florida Gateway College Chapter President, Gail Burdick 2014 November/December The FGC AFC Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides team raised $1092 that was donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in November 2014. FGC had nine members attend the 2014 Annual Convention. The college enthusiastically participated in the Convention Service Project with a trunk load of donations for Ronald McDonald House.

We had a fun and successful Chili & Crockpot Cookout fundraiser on November 6, 2014. The variety was amazing! 2015 January Our chapter raised $440 for the Guardian Ad Litem Christmas project. In an initiative started by last year s chapter president, the chapter and the college have embraced our goal of offering more professional development events in 2015. We are planning two events this spring: We will sponsor a Reader s Theater presentation by the students in the FGC Forensics team at the January Installation of Officers meeting and Lunch & Learn event. We also plan to sponsor a Lunch & Learn presentation by the college s Purchasing Department about recycling. The Installation of Officers meeting and accompanying professional development Lunch & Learn event will take place on January 28, 2015. Our chapter has two members (Christine Boatright and Tiffany Givens) who have been accepted into the Certified College Professional program and two new members (Swanzetta Battles and Becky Westberry) who are in the application process. Our chapter will be sending three members to the Leadership Conference at the end of January. We are hoping to send at least six members to the Region II Conference in April.
