Program Overview & Target Audience The purpose of this educational activity is: To provide education on recent advances in the field of cardiovascular medicine and how they impact management of patients. The emphasis will be on evidence-based, best practice standards of care. It will focus on practical and clinical issues faced on a daily basis by the health care professional. This activity has been designed for Primary Care Physicians, Interventional Cardiologists, Clinical Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, Vascular Surgeons, Hospitalists, Emergency Medicine Specialists, Interventional Radiologists, Nurses, Technologists and other health care professionals who want to enhance their knowledge of current advances in the management of patients with heart and vascular disease. Course Objectives: Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: Compare the results from important clinical trials and evidence-based medicine to guide management of patients with cardiac, vascular and structural heart disease Describe appropriate pharmacologic management of patients requiring antiplatelet or anticoagulation therapy List two or more strategies for managing patients with pulmonary hypertension Summarize the current recommendations for improving heart failure outcomes Apply evidence-based strategies in the management of patients with vascular disease Integrate enhanced use of physical assessment techniques in the management of the cardiovascular patient Hosting Department and Organization Current Advances in Cardiovascular Care 2015 is hosted by the Department of Cardiovascular Services at Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital. Accreditation Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Nurses: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Nursing Education, Innovation and Professional Development is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Designation of Credit Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses: The program will award 7.25 contact hours. Certificates and Transcripts: A few days prior to the symposium, pre-registered participants will receive an email containing directions, additional symposium information and a link to the symposium pre-test, a short questionnaire that will be used to gauge participant knowledge. After the symposium has concluded, all participants will receive a follow-up email containing a link to the post-test, symposium evaluation and request for credit. Once participants submit the request for credit, the credit can be viewed on a transcript or a certificate can be printed by logging onto www.penncmeonline.com once the conference concludes. Registration Fees The registration fees for the Current Advances in Cardiovascular Care 2015 are the following: $89 for Physicians, $79 for Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. $59 for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals. The registration fee is $39 for Chester County Hospital and Penn Medicine employees, faculty and staff with a valid Chester County Hospital or Penn Medicine ID. The registration fee includes attendance to the symposium, a course booklet and a link to view the presentations online, continental breakfast, mid-morning and afternoon breaks as well as lunch. Please see the top of the registration form for mailing and faxing information. All registrations will be confirmed in writing if your registration form and fee are received by April 24, 2015. Cancellation and Refund Policy In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by April 24, 2015 and are subject to a $15.00 service charge. No refunds will be issued thereafter. The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of a cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines, and travel agencies.
