Eighty-five organizations received funding in support of programs that ranged from basic needs services and affordable housing projects to literacy and workforce development programs. The funding was distributed within the foundation s three areas of focus: 51 percent allocated to youth development, 32 percent to community development, and 17 percent to affordable housing initiatives. Recipients included FSW, Inc. and Partnership for Strong Communities in Connecticut; the Worcester Area Business Education Foundation and the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership in Massachusetts; JumpStart Coalition in New Hampshire; Community Development Corporation of Long Island and Greyston Foundation in New York; the Committee on Temporary Shelter in Vermont; and Jobs for Maine s Graduates in Maine. With the onset of 2013, People s United Community Foundation continues to see significant needs across our footprint, said Vincent Santilli, Executive Director of the foundation. The foundation is pleased to be able to assist 85 organizations within our communities that are working vigorously to address those needs and improve the quality of life for residents. For a detailed list of organizations that People s United Community Foundation supported during the first grant cycle of 2013, please refer to the chart below. Established in 2007, People s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People s United Bank serves. People s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of 419 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for lowincome families and neighborhoods.
