The seven themes of CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING for children We have entered the 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time of our church liturgical calendar. Our Word of the Week is reward. Reward means something given or received in return or recompense for service, merit, hardship, etc. In Sunday s good news we hear Mark Chapter 9 verses 40 and 41. [Jesus said,] For whoever is not against us is for us. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward. We all enjoy receiving a reward whether it s an A on a test, a trophy earned in a sports competition, or getting an I was caught doing something good ribbon. These are man-made rewards that can satisfy us for a little while, but eventually we become dissatisfied and start looking for another reward. The only reward that will keep us satisfied is the reward we receive from God. Do you seek a reward from Jesus? We all need to finish the following sentence: The most satisfying reward I can receive from Jesus is.
