NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION 4109 Ponderosa Dr SW Covington, Georgia 30014 NAACP Scholarship: A nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit, financial need and available funding to graduating high school students in the Newton County School System. One scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student at each of the area high schools; Alcovy, Eastside, and Newton. In addition, the Newton County NAACP Youth Council will recognize one active and deserving graduating high school senior from its membership. Each award will be for $500. Scholarship winners will be recognized at the Newton NAACP Gala in the Fall of 2018. Recipients will not be able to receive the award until they provide the Scholarship Committee with proof that he/she is enrolled at an institution of higher learning (e.g. technical college or a fouryear college or university). The questions in this application are designed to collect information about your background, interests, and your college and career plans. Your answers to these questions will be used only in evaluating your application for this scholarship competition and will only be seen by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Must be accepted or anticipate on being accepted to an accredited full-time program of studies at a technical college or four-year college or university. 4. Have a minimum Grade Point Average of a 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. Submit a sharp and high-glossy photograph of yourself with your name written on the back of the photo. The photo must be a head and shoulder shot of you only and measure a minimum of 2 ½ by 3 and a maximum of 3 ½ by 5. The photo will be used for publicity and as part of the annual celebration program. Recommendations All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, principals, coaches, your pastor, and/or community leaders. These persons should be able to provide insight into the applicant s personal character, potential, work and motivation. (NOTE: You must have the following recommendations (other than relatives): (1) academic recommendation must be from a teacher who is familiar with the applicant s work and can make reference to the applicant s ability to successfully complete a college program of study (2) personal character reference, or community service reference from an advisor or coordinator.) Letters of recommendation must accompany the application and must be provided in separate, sealed envelopes signed across the sealed flap by the person providing the reference. H. Transcripts All applicants must submit official transcripts of their grades. Student must provide a complete transcript of their grades. The transcript must show all test result and scores (including SAT and/or ACT scores).
