Nominating a Candidate Close consideration is given to the activities the nominee undertakes at the local and state levels as well as nationally. Nominees may be living or deceased, but must be citizens of the United States. Many applicants are directly involved in housing as builders and developers; however, others may be attorneys, architects, educators, researchers, land and community planners, marketing experts, trade association professionals, product suppliers and government officials. Nominations may be submitted by an NAHB member or local home builder association. Candidates will be selected from the categories below: Builder/Developer (Must be owner or major principal of a residential building company) Government* (Elected officials or others in housing related public service) Housing Related Field (Individuals involved in related fields such as financing, land planning, architecture, research, education, and association management) Congressional or other government officials must be out of office for at least five years before being nominated. If, however, there is an extraordinary or extenuating circumstance, the five-year rule can be waived if that person is highly deserving of the award. This determination will be at the discretion of the NHC Board of Governors. Qualifications The National Housing Center Board of Governors will use the criteria listed above when considering nominees qualifications in determining which award the applicant is best qualified for. Submission of Nominations Instructions and Information Completed nomination forms must be submitted directly to the National Association of Home Builders (see below). Only nominations submitted on the official nomination form will be accepted for review. Nomination forms will be reviewed for accuracy and compliance by the administrative staff of the National Housing Center Board of Governors. Incomplete applications will be returned to the maker of the application. Please type or print all answers and complete the nomination form in its entirety. Incomplete nomination forms (forms without all requested information) will not be forwarded to the NHC Board of Governors for consideration and will be returned. Your completed form is the primary tool used to determine the merits of each nominee. If you wish, you may also submit supplementary information in support of a nomination (articles, speeches, letters, case studies of contributions, publications, etc.). These materials are often helpful and become part of the permanent and extensive files. However, only a completed nomination form and appropriate supplements will be sent on for judging and final selection. Submissions for nominees to be placed into consideration for the upcoming year must be submitted 30 days prior to the Midyear Meeting.
