205 South Fifth Street, Suite 930 Springfield, Illinois 62701 Phone: 217.789.4431 Fax: 217.789.4635 www.cfll.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Stacy Reed January 1, 2014 217-789-4431 reed@cfll.org Funding Available Now for Scholarships, Seniors Issues and Women and Girls Programs Springfield The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln is currently accepting applications for three separate grant cycles: Grant Funds Available for Senior Programs The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry for grant funds from the King s Daughters Organization (KDO) Fund. The grants must be used to support programs and services that primarily benefit seniors (55 years of age and older) in Sangamon County. This is the seventh year of grantmaking from the fund, which has awarded $585,000 to local charities over the last six years. Access to the online grant application and instructions on completing the proposal can be found on the Community Foundation website: www.cfll.org. Local non-profit organizations that operate in Sangamon County and serve the elderly are encouraged to submit a Letter of Inquiry before the February 3, 2014 deadline. Charities may also sign up at www.cfll.org to receive automatic email alerts when new grant funds from the Community Foundation are available. Letters of Inquiry will be reviewed, and organizations that are selected to submit a full grant proposal will be notified in late February. The final grant awards will be presented at the King s Daughters Organization annual meeting on May 12 th. Grant amounts will range from $2,500 to $25,000 and will be based on availability of funds. The King s Daughters Organization is led by local volunteers who serve the community through hands-on support and projects designed to aid the elderly in Sangamon County. KDO established a donor-advised fund through the Community Foundation with assets from the closure of the ladies home in order to create a new grantmaking resource for charitable organizations. The goal of the KDO Fund is to provide financial support to programs and services that enhance the quality of life and address the unmet needs of older residents of Sangamon County.

Grant Funds Available for Women and Girls Programs The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry for The Women s Fund an endowment fund built by Women for Women members to increase awareness and address the needs of women and girls in Sangamon County. Up to $30,000 will be awarded, and multiple awards may be granted during the 2014 grant cycle. Grants are awarded to programs that target young adult women (ages 17-35) and adolescent girls (grades 6-12), and special consideration will be given to programs that emphasize positive mental health outcomes for its participants. Women for Women members pool their resources to fund worthy projects and achieve greater impact in the community than they might otherwise have been able to do individually. Since it was established in 2007, Women for Women has granted a total of $93,000 to programs that support local women and children. Local nonprofit organizations that operate in Sangamon County and provide services or programs to women and girls are encouraged to submit a proposal before the February 3, 2014 deadline. Applicants must apply via the Foundation s online system, which can be accessed through its web site at: www.cfll.org. Women for Women was established at the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln in order to promote philanthropy among women, to create a permanent source for grantmaking and to address the needs of women in the community. College Scholarship Application Period Open Now Through March 1 The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln is now accepting online applications for nearly $70,000 available for the 2014 scholarship award cycle. There are 25 different scholarship funds, many targeted to Sangamon County seniors but some for older students or students in other counties. Since 2005, the Community Foundation has distributed almost $400,000 in scholarships. New scholarships this year include the Girls on the Run Founder Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship for a female senior who participated in the Girls on the Run Central Illinois program, and the Joseph and Lois Morris Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to at least one senior boy and girl at Springfield High School. Full details and criteria for each award are posted on the Community Foundation s website at www.cfll.org by clicking on 2014 Scholarship Applications.
