Northeastern School District December 1, 2017 On Thursday, November 30, our 5th and 6th grade Intermediate ensembles officially kicked off our holiday concert season! The students played festive tunes, from classics to modern tunes, that delighted the filled auditorium with the sights and sounds of the season. Congratulations to our students and their directors, Mr. James Nackley, Mr. Jack Mackley, Ms. Julie Myers, and Mrs. Rebecca Miller on a wonderful evening of music!

On November 18, 2017 three members of La Société Honoraire de Français took part in the 7th Annual World Language Competition at Shippensburg University. Emma Walther, Isatou Sawaneh and Taylor Lanier competed in French jeopardy and karaoke and Taylor got a bronze medal in jeopardy! Congratulations to all of them! York Haven had a Positive Celebration. As part of the celebration there was a Turkey Dinner Relay and a Pie Eating Contest. Mr. Pomraning won the Pie Eating Contest again! Congratulations to High Street Media advisers Dave Weikert and Beth Ann Brown for earning the Certified Journalism Educator credential from the Journalism Education Association. Great job on earning this distinguished honor. Congratulations to the yearbook staff for earning a Gold rating from the Pennsylvania School Press Association and a Gold Rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the 2016-2017 yearbook! These ratings make a clean sweep of the top ratings from every organization who judged the book. Great job!
York Haven's Winners Golden Awards! The awards are given to the class with the best behavior in those classes. The Golden Brush Award (Art) goes to Mrs. Nestor s 2nd Grade Class. The Golden Book Award (Library) goes to Mrs. Shearer s 1st Grade Class. The Golden Note Award (Music) goes to Mrs. Godfrey s Kindergarten Class. The Golden Shoe Award (PE) goes to Mr. Rodgers s 2nd Grade Class.
Thirty high school students were inducted into Northeastern s Chapter of Rho Kappa (Social Studies Honor Society) this past Tuesday. Rho Kappa is a new opportunity for juniors and seniors who have displayed academic scholarship in Social Studies classes. The purpose of Rho Kappa is to provide students with opportunities to both grown in knowledge of the Social Studies field and serve the community. Officers of this first year of Rho Kappa were also installed during the induction: Drake Myers - President, Grace Kominsky - Vice President, Rose Rush - Parliamentarian, Regan Gross - Treasurer, Dakota Nace - Community Outreach Chair and Rachel Means - Assistant Community Outreach Chair. Derek Haugh, Northeastern graduate, visited York Haven Elementary recently. Derek proudly talked about his training as a Marine and about his upcoming placement in Hawaii. He visited with students, former teachers, and surprised his cousin Mitchell Haugh with a visit. Ms. Fahs and the Holiday Concert sixth grade performers from SBI HR 310!
The National Honor Society hosted it s annual Senior Citizen Dance on Thursday evening. This event is coordinated by the NHS students at the High School and is offered to the community as an outreach project. Approximately 70 senior citizens joined us for dinner and dancing. A fun time was had by all!
Miss Wimer's second graders at Conewago Elementary performed Contraction Surgery this week in order to gain a better understanding of how contractions are formed. We cut the words up and built contractions with the parts needed by attaching a band aid where the apostrophe goes. We had so much fun!
