Page 2 of 8 Duties Summary This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The incumbent is responsible for providing medical/nursing care for the students enrolled in the program. The medical, dental, and nursing care needs are not predictable, but are normally of a non-critical nature. For additional information about the duties of this position, please contact Amy Passero at 308-432-8611 or anpassero@fs.fed.us Responsibilities Provides practical nursing services in a Health and Wellness Clinic. The incumbent conducts daily Health and Wellness checks, observes students conditions, assesses medical/nursing needs and provides care according to the Contract Physicians standing healthcare orders. Records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations and other pertinent medical data into the student health chart. Performs assessments for minor illnesses, injuries and emergency situations. Refers student(s) to Contract Physician for treatment of problems of a more serious nature, as well as makes referrals to private physicians, dentists, specialists or any other labs, etc. as required. Assists with maintaining a Ward for Inpatient Health for students presenting with illness/problems which them from performing their duties in their assigned areas. Assists with cursory physical examination on all newly arrived students, obtaining health history, administering immunizations, performing pregnancy tests, urinalysis tests, hemoglobin/hematocrit testing, routine vision and hearing screening, obtaining heights, weights and a full battery of vital signs. Assists the Physician with all medical procedures performed on Center. Is responsible for implementing the State Funded Vaccine for Children (VFC) program for all enrolled students. Includes administration of immunizations of proper intervals, tracking, ordering of vaccine/supplies, documentation in student records, and transference of documentation of local Health Department for data entry into State registrar and all other required documentation for the State. Is also accountable for proper storage and maintenance of vaccines according to State guidelines. This program is contingent upon all State regulations followed without variance in quality control issues. Instructs and fosters increased self-reliance and independence in responsibility of positive/healthy lifestyle choices in students. Instructs appropriate utilization of the Health-Care system to enhance positive employability traits Assists in counseling, educating, and training students on a variety of health subjects such as hygiene; prevention of pregnancy, STDs and HIV; nutrition and exercise; and specified information on illnesses and disease prevention. Counsels students about matters relevant to their vocational and academic performance and other related concerns to encourage and motivate them to succeed in the classroom and after graduation. Handles student disciplinary and/or behavioral problems. Emphasizes and instructs students regarding the importance of personal hygiene; professional appearance; job punctuality; and reliability. Communicates to students the importance of cooperation with fellow workers, acceptance of constructive criticism, following instructions, and respecting the value of company and personal property. NOTE: Current state and/or national Licensure as a Practical (Vocational) Nurse (LPN); and CPR certification required. In accordance with USDA Department Regulation 4430-792-2, this position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the USDA Drug Free Workplace Program and subject to pre-employment drug testing.
