Missouri Categories (for now) Different than NR Paramedic and EMT are different Both have Preparatory, Airway and Trauma Both have Medical EMT has OB-Peds, Paramedic has Specials Paramedic has Opera/ons EMT has Assessment
Missouri Requirements Missouri does have specific requirements for Core categories These differ for Paramedic vs EMT both in hours and the /tles of the categories. Missouri allows elec/ves which opens a broad category where some Fire Training or USAR topics can fit. Missouri intends to change these categories and requirements in 2018.

NR NCCP-16 Model Three parts ( components ): Na/onal State / Local Individual Na/onal component has specific sub-topics Each component has different limits on the number of online hours.
NR Na/onal Component Paramedics have 33 sub-topics EMTs have 28 sub-topics Each is REQUIRED in a two-year period (April 1 to March 31) There is a limit to how much can be online: Paramedics 10 hours EMTs 7 hours More about State / Local and Individual Components later
NR Sub-Topics Must cover EACH of these Same name for EMT and Paramedic Different hours in many cases Some lessons are essen/ally iden/cal for EMT and Paramedic
Airway, Respira/on, Ven/la/on Ven/la/on (both but different hours) Oxygena/on (both same hours) Capnography (Paramedic only)
Cardiovascular Post Resuscita/on Care (both-same hours) Ventricular Assist Devices (both-same hrs) Stroke (both but different hours) Cardiac Arrest (both same hours) Pediatric Cardiac Arrest (both-different hrs) Conges/ve Heart Failure (Paramedic only) Acute Coronary Syndrome (Paramedic only)
Trauma Trauma Triage (both -different hours) CNS Injury (both-different hours) Hemorrhage Control (both-same hours) Fluid Resuscita/on (Paramedic only)
Medical OB Emergencies (both-same hours) Endocrine Emergencies (both-same hours) Neuro Emergencies (both-same hours) Toxicological Emerg. (both-same hours) Immunological Emerg.(both-same hours) Infec/ous Diseases (both-same hours)
Medical con/nued Special Healthcare Needs (both-different hrs) Psych / Behavioral (both-different hours) Pain Management (both-different hours) Medica/on Delivery (Paramedic only)
Opera/ons Ambulance Safety (both-same hours) Hygiene / Safety (both-same hours) Culture of Safety (both-same hours) Pediatric Transport (both-same hours) Crew Resource Mgt. (both-same hours) Evidence Based Guidelines (both-same hrs)
Opera/ons con/nued At Risk Popula/ons (both-different hours) Field Triage / MCI (both-different hours) EMS Research (both-different hours)
Sub-Topic Summary Many are both-same hours for EMT and Paramedic Several are both-different hours for EMT and Paramedic A few are Paramedic Only Both-different hours topics could be taken by EMT and just count the addi/onal hours in the Individual Component.
Sub-Topic Specifics Airway-Respira/on-Ven/la/on and Cardiovascular sub-topics can be covered in Monthly Training and ACLS Refresher without issue. Medical sub-topics and Trauma sub-topics can be met that way as well for the most part. Opera/ons sub-topics are best addressed online for both EMT and Paramedic.
More on Sub-Topics In some cases, EMTs can complete the Paramedic version of an online lesson which would: meet the EMT sub-topic hours provide overflow hours for Individual Component or State / Local Component
Lehovers There would be an addi/onal 8 hour session for Paramedics and a different 8 hour session for EMTs needed to meet all sub-topics. Again EMTs could come to the Paramedic session. These sessions could be offered more than once annually in lieu of Refreshers.
State / Local Component No specific sub-topics at this point Paramedics need 15 hours in 2-year cycle 10 can be online EMTs need 10 hours in 2-year cycle 7 can be online
Individual Component No specific sub-topics Paramedics need 15 hours in 2-year cycle 15 can be online EMTs need 10 hours in 2-year cycle 10 can be online
Monthly EMS Training The Fire District NEEDS you to keep your Missouri License. The Fire District has objec/ves for Monthly EMS Training in addi/on to acquisi/on of CEUs. Some of the NR sub-topics simply do not fit into Monthly EMS training.
Paramedic versus EMT EMTs can count Paramedic hours. In many cases, Paramedics need the EMT level content plus addi/onal /me. Paramedic material must be taught by a Paramedic or other ALS Subject Maier Expert. Paramedics also need ACLS which can count for several sub-topics.
Summary Na/onal Component needs special aien/on in order to meet each sub-topic requirement. Na/onal Component cannot be completed totally online. Na/onal Component sub-topics are unlikely to fit into the Monthly EMS Training schedule. State / Local and Individual Components can be met with Monthly Training and online.
Plan for 2018 Members should affiliate with BCFPD on NR if: they are EMTs they are Paramedics NOT working for an ALS service Division will create course entries on the BCFPD NR Training Officer account that can be assigned to aiendees for CEU tracking as a service to Members.
2018 Plan con/nued Division will create online lessons deployed through the EMS Ed website for the sub-topics within Opera/ons: At-Risk Populations Ambulance Safety Field Triage Disasters/MCI EMS Provider Hygiene, Safety, and Vaccinations EMS Culture of Safety Pediatric Transport Crew Resource Management EMS Research Evidence Based Guidelines
2018 Plan con/nued Division will create, schedule and deliver the following 8 hour face-to-face courses: ALS CE Course BLS CE Course ACLS Refresher ALS and BLS Refreshers were delivered in January-February 2018. The above will be scheduled for later in the year.
2018 Plan (finale) Fire District requires MO license Fire District requires 70% aiendance at Monthly EMS Training Members who want to keep NR will need to: aiend more than 70% of Monthly EMS Training probably aiend BLS or ALS CE Course probably need to do online for Opera/ons
