JGWEF GRANT APPLICATION NOTICE TO APPLICANTS The grant will be open to all Tivoli Gardens High School students from grades 7 11 that participates in and demonstrates commitment or leadership potential in a school-approved extra-curricular activity, excel in academia, and express the need for financial assistance. The grant is subject to an annual review of awardee s overall academic performance. The Foundation has the right to request information directly from the school. The Foundation must be advised of any change of address. Funds will be disbursed to the awardee at the start of the school term (September). Parents and students must sign the Image Release Consent form for Students/Minors. Conditions for Award of Grants: The applicant must: 1. maintain regular school attendance; 2. display excellent conduct and deportment; 3. display excellent leadership skills and/or be involved in community service activities 4. 10 and 11 graders MUST maintain at least an overall average of 70 (C); 5. participate in and demonstrate commitment or leadership potential in one or more extracurricular activity 6. submit verified copies of the most recent term report/certificates along with the application; 7. not be benefitting from a similar grant, bursary or scholarship; 8. be aware that disbursement of a grant is subject to an annual review of the overall performance in academic achievement, grades, sports and participation in social/ community activities 9. be expected to provide a written testimonial or engage in public speeches as an awardee.

Application for grant must be submited by MARCH 15 to the Grade Supervisor, Tivoli Gardens High School for submission to The JGWEF. 1. The grant is not recurrent and students must apply each year to be considered. 2. The Foundation has the right to refuse any application. 3. Each application must be approved by the form teacher. SECTION 3: THE ESSAY I know, I know we hear from students all the time who tell us how much they dislike writing essays, but the essay section of the application is very important. This is where you can voice your opinions, point out your strengths, and distinguish yourself from the other applicants. In 100 words for 7-9 grades/175 for 10-11 grades, type or write legibly why you should be awarded the Jeanette Grant-Woodham Education Foundation Grant. 10-11 graders must clearly indicate their intent to pursue a post-secondary education, and show how the grant will assist in their education plan. 4

The suggested adequate criterion has been listed under the section for your guidance. For the strengths and weaknesses portion of each category, please list at least 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses. Letters of Recommendation: Please evaluate a student s letters of recommendation with consideration. Not all recommenders permit students to view the letter of recommendation. While it is believed a student should select persons that will positively speak on their behalf, again, the product is somewhat out of the student s control. Be objective.
