The University Department of Botany was founded in 195 The Department operates from the Institute of Basic Applied Sciences building, under the guidance of Prof. AK Srivastava, Head of the Department Dean, Faculty of Science. The Department has five special papers viz. Algal Biotechnology (FOUNDER: LATE PROF. JP SINHA); Microbiology and Plant Pathology (FOUNDERS: LATE PROF. M PRASAD, LATE PROF. DS SHUKLA PROF. DP GUPTA); Cytogenetics, Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology Biotechnology (FOUNDER: PROF. SSN SINHA); Plant Physiology, Biotechnology Molecular Biology (FOUNDER: PROF. KK NAG) and Plant Taxonomy, Ethnobotany Medicinal Plants (FOUNDER: PROF. TK GHOSH). JAFAR NIZAM, PROF. YD TYAGI, PROF. LP MALL, PROF. OP MALL, PROF. CP MALIK, PROF. SN CHATURVEDI, PROF. YS MURTY AND PROF. HC ARYA) for the best paper presented (if recommended by experts) in each section. (The first and presenter author should not be above 30 years). At least three papers should be presented for the award of medal in each section. For the best poster presentation, PROF. KS BILGRAMI GOLD MEDAL (author below the age of 35 years) and PROF. SN DIXIT GOLD MEDAL will be awarded. No member shall be eligible to receive the certificate and/medal for a second time in the same section or in another section. The same applies to the awards of the Society. Date of birth of each author/co-author must be given below his/her name, failing which the paper will not be considered for prize contest (only the Supervisor may be the co-author in the paper). YOUNG BOTANIST AWARD CTEST The three-day conference shall include the Presidential Address, 5 Medal Award Lectures, 2 Special Invited Lectures, and several concurrent sessions for presentation of original Research Papers and Posters in different sections of Botany. Any member shall not be allowed to present more than 2 Papers for the conference. All the submitted Papers shall be subject to a scrutiny, and upon due recommendation, be eligible for publication in the Volume of Abstracts of the INDIAN BOTANICAL SOCIETY. All Oral Presentation should be restricted to 6-8 minutes, to be followed by a discussion. Participants are requested to prepare their presentations on MS Power Point for LCD presentations. Participants shall be allotted an area of 6 X 6 at the venue for Poster Presentations. A separate section will be held for young botanists, below the age of 35 years as on October 31, 2016**, for presenting their paper in the section of the Young Botanist Award. Life members can submit full papers in triplicate for this contest by August 31, 2016. These will be scrutinized by a committee and three best selected papers will be allowed for presentation. Each participant will be given 20 minutes for paper presentation followed by 5 minutes for discussion. The best presentation shall get Young Botanist Award 2016 (Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Merit Certificate and Dr. Bahadur Singh Gold Medal). Members intending to participate in the conference will be required to submit full-copy of their Manuscripts (alongwith a good copies of the illustrations) and a copy of the Abstracts (not exceeding 150 words) mentioning the Scientific Section* of the paper. The aforementioned submissions should be presented on good-quality A4-size paper, to be typed in MS Word, using Times New Roman fonts, in a font-size of 12-points, and having a paragraph-spacing of The last day for accepting these submissions is September 15, 2016. A medal will be awarded to an outstanding plant Morphologist/Taxonomist up to the age of 50 years as on October 31, 2016 for his/her research contributions in any group of plant kingdom. Nominations are invited along with detailed biodata, list of publications and reprints of 10 best papers published for evaluation by the committee constituted for the purpose. SVS CHAUHAN GOLD MEDAL A medal will be awarded to the youngest participant up to the age of 25 years as on October 31, 2016 who has presented his/her research paper in any group of plant kingdom.
