Invitation to Apply: Intel s 2013 Early Career Faculty Honor Program ***NOMINATIONS NEED TO BE RECEIVED BY March 22, 2013*** ***PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WITHIN YOUR UNIVERSITY TO APPROPRIATE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF*** Program Summary Intel is excited to be announcing the 2013 rollout of the Early Career Faculty Honor Program (not to be confused with the Intel Doctoral Student Honor Program which will be announced separately in the coming weeks). This is the second year Intel has offered this program in the EU. In 2012 Intel honored 9 faculty members in the EU with awards. Intel s Early Career Faculty Honor Program provides financial and networking support to those faculty members who are early in their careers and who show great promise as future academic leaders in disruptive computing technologies. The purpose of this Program is to help promote the careers of promising early career faculty members and to foster long-term collaborative relationships with senior technical leaders at Intel. This award is a NOT a research grant to sponsor any specific research. The award is a one-time gift of USD$35,000 equivalent. The award is intended to be used for: Travel expenses for networking opportunities with senior Intel technical leaders; Travel expenses for opportunities to speak at Intel sponsored events; Travel expenses for the formal award ceremony in the EU (tentatively planned for October in London); The balance to be used at the discretion of the Honoree per university policy for research or curriculum development support (class material, conferences sponsorship, travel expenses, computer lab infrastructure, web site development, textbooks, etc.). Details of the Early Career Faculty Honor Program Who Qualifies? Any full time, tenured or tenure track (or equivalent) faculty member involved in research; With less than 5-years cumulative experience as a full-time university faculty member; From universities invited by Intel to participate in this Program; Nominated by the dean/rector of the university or appropriate department head (limited to 3 per university); Researching topics that have the potential to be disruptive to the computing industry in the areas outlined below; AND Has not previously been an award recipient. What Areas of Research is Intel Interested In for this Award? Energy, Sustainability and Smart Cities: Smart Grid; Personal Energy Management Systems; Cyber Physical Platforms; etc. Embedded: Automotive Systems and Smart Mobility Infrastructure; System on Chip Design (accelerators, design methodology and automation); etc. Computing Systems: Architecture, Communications, Wireless, Visual Computing; etc. Security: IT Security; Mobile Computing; Usability; Big Data; Cloud Computing; etc. What is the Award? What is the Application/Acceptance Process? Send John Somoza at john.a.somoza@intel.com the names of the faculty you are nominating (up to 3) by March 22, 2013 with the following information: o Name of Nominee o Email address of the Nominee o General area of research the nominee is currently engaged in Each nominee will receive a username and password to access the application online The nominee will go to facultynominations.intel.com and complete the simple application by April 19, 2013 Honorees will be selected by committees at Intel comprising senior technical leaders and the selection will be based on many factors such as: o Accomplishments since becoming a faculty member of the university o Clarity and achievability of the proposed research agenda o How compelling the proposed research agenda is Honorees will be notified of any awards around May 10, 2013 Signed acceptance of the awards and appropriate certifications will be required by May 24, 2013 Honorees will be expected to meet senior technical leaders and/or speak at Intel sponsored events through 2013/2014 as schedules permit Feb 20, 2013 3
