Outreach 1. Participate in job fairs involving Station personnel with substantial responsibility for hiring decisions. Establish an internship program to assist members of the community in acquiring broadcast television skills. WHTM s internship program is coordinated with a college or university where the student receives academic credit for his or her work at our station. From April 1, 2009 March 31, 2010, 17 students were awarded internships with the station. Provide training to management-level personnel on methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination. On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, WHTM managers attended a comprehensive training program that covered Equal Employment Opportunity and Employment Discrimination. The training was led by the Vice President of Human Resources and Deputy General Counsel for Allbritton Communications Group, Joanne Ochsman. The training was intended to reinforce the managers understanding of the laws governing the employment relationship, their obligations and responsibilities and the importance of this area to the Station. Topics covered in the training session included the following: Applicable Federal and State Laws FCC EEO Regulations Enforcement and Damages Covered Individuals Protected Characteristics Prohibited Actions Practical Guidelines 4. Participate in other activities designed by the Station to further the goal of disseminating employment opportunity information to job candidates who might otherwise be unaware of such opportunities. Careers in Broadcasting Pamphlet WHTM creates and distributes a brochure with detailed job explanations for use at job fairs, public speaking events, to give to prospective employees, etc. This brochure is made available to the public at the front desk. Tours WHTM provides various groups (colleges, high schools, scout troops, community groups) the opportunity to tour the WHTM facility and learn more

5. Other about the process of producing a newscast. Approximately 20 tours are provided on an annual basis. Career Exploration WHTM managers and staff assist local high school students explore broadcasting careers by participating in shadowing opportunities. From April 1, 2009 March 31, 2010, approximately 10 students were hosted. Participation in career fairs WHTM managers frequently visit various local colleges and state universities to speak to students on careers in broadcasting. Some of the campuses visited this year were Shippensburg University and Pennsylvania State University. Local high and schools and various other civic organizations were also visited as part of their career day presentations. Educating High School/Elementary on careers in Broadcasting WHTM s Meteorology department (Eric Finkenbinder and Brett Thakara) visits local high schools and elementary schools to educate them on careers in Meteorology. Approximately 25 schools were visited from April 1, 2009 March 31, 2010. Also, numerous local high schools and various other civic organizations were also visited by management personnel and on-air talent as part of career day presentations. Support of Non-Profit Organization Promoting Higher Education WHTM and its employees are strong supporters of the United Way of the Capital Region contributing not only financial support but many volunteer hours and offering leadership through membership on various boards. WHTM is a dedicated partner helping to promote the United Way throughout Capital Region. Through the United Way, WHTM supports the work of the Joshua Group, a mentoring organization deeply involved in rescuing the future of street kids in the Allison Hill neighborhood of the City of Harrisburg. The Joshua Group offers atrisk youths the opportunity to participate in GED and SAT testing prep classes, tutoring, and job search and placement programs. They provide scholarships to at-risk High School students many of whom have gone on to enjoy success at places like La Salle University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and Harrisburg Area Community College. The Joshua Group also runs an after school mentoring and tutoring program for at-risk 7 th and 8 th graders. WHTM s anchors and reporters are proud of their commitment to community service.
