COLLG OF NURSING, SANGLI 1. Faculty Profile, adequacy and competency of faculty The faculty strength of the college consists of 18 teachers out of whom one is professor and other are lecturers including 8 females and 10 males. All the faculty members are adequate, competent and qualified as specified by the Nursing Council of India. 2. Student Profile according to programmes of study, gender, region etc. Out of 107 students, 79 are B.Sc.(Nursing) students and 28 are Post Basic B.Sc.(Nursing). The following table shows the distribution of the students on the basis of gender and region. Changes made in the courses or programmes during the past five years and the contribution of the faculty to those changes As per the revised INC syllabus, changes are made in the curriculum of UG programme in 2007. The faculty members have contributed in framing of the syllabi for this course. 4. Trends in the success and dropout rates of students during the past five years The success rate on an average is 82 % and dropout rate is hardly 1 %. 5. Learning resources of the departments like library, computers, laboratories and other such resources ach department is well equipped with a laboratory and computers with internet connectivity. The library has 1105 books and 17 journals and magazines. 6. nhancement of the learning resources during the past five years The learning resources have been enhanced with two LCD projects, a computer lab, models and mannequins. 123
7. Modern teaching methods in practice other than lecture method The college uses simulation teaching, panel discussions, seminars, workshops, field trips, projects and case study method in addition to lecture method. 8. Participation of teachers in academic and personal counseling of students The college has a separate Counseling Cell which carries out academic and personal counseling of the students. 9. Details of faculty development programmes and teachers who have been benefited during the past five years: Four faculty members were deputed for post graduate studies in nursing and 12 faculty members were deputed for national and international conferences, workshops and training programmes. 10. Participation of teachers in academic activities other than teaching and research All teachers participate in various activities other than teaching and research such as, participation in co-curricular, extracurricular and extension activities for the benefit of the students and public at large. Some of the teachers also participate in workshop, conferences and seminars etc. as resource persons / chair persons. 11. Collaboration with other department and institutions, at the National and International levels, and their outcome during the past five years The college regularly collaborated with various organizations such as, Indian Nursing Council, Trained Nurses Association of India, Society of Midwives, Nursing Research Society of India, National Neonatology Forum. The faculty and students are being benefited by these collaborations / associations. 12. If research is a significant activity, the thrust areas of the department The thrust areas of research are communicable diseases and nursing administration. 13. Details of the ongoing projects and projects completed during past five years The institute has one ongoing research project. 124
14. Programme by research offered by university The university offers Ph.D. degree programme in nursing. 15. Publications of the faculty, for the past five years. Details regarding citation index and impact factor analysis: The faculty is being encouraged to undertake research publications. 16. Participation of the department in the extension activities of the University The college regularly collaborated with various organizations such as, Gram panchayats, Mahila mandals in organizing pulse polio programme, medical camp, AIDS awareness programme, breast feeding week etc. The institute conducted extension activities in collaboration with the community health nursing departments in Sangliwadi, an urban area, Kavatepiran, a rural area, in Sangli District. 17. Method of Continuous student assessment The continuous assessment of students is conducted through regular unit tests / examination and clinical assignments. 18. Placement record of the past students and the contribution of the department to the student placements The constituent unit is established in the year 2007. The first batch of students is yet to be passed out. We are in the process of establishing the placement cell. 19. Significant achievements of the department or faculty or students during past five years Since, the college was established in the academic year 2007-08, noteworthy achievements of the college are few, for example, one student has won first prize in solodance inter-collegiate competition. 20. Participation of the department in COSIP /COHSSIP / SAPCAS /DSA / DRS/FIST etc. Not applicable being constituent unit of deemed to be university. 125
21. Plan of action of the department for the next five years Plan to develop the laboratories as per the norms of Indian Nursing Council for the third year course. To enrich the library with text books, reference books and journals. Strengthening collaboration with NGOs. Plans to start M.Sc. in Nursing. 22. Any other highlights 1. Development of best practices in teaching learning resources 2. Celebration of lamp lighting on the occasion of florence nightingale oath for professionalism and quality care. 3. Participation of the students and faculty in health awareness programmes for the society. 4. Organization of socially oriented NSS activities. 126
