Black Belt Community Foundation 2017 Arts Grant Application INSTRUCTIONS: Applications must be postmarked by March 3, 2017. Complete proposals may also be hand-delivered to the Black Belt Community Foundation s office at 609 Lauderdale Street, Selma, AL or emailed to 2017artsgrants@blackbeltfound.org no later than 4:00 PM Central Time on Friday, March 3, 2017. Late or faxed applications will NOT be accepted. Headquartered in Selma, Alabama, The Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF) invites groups and organizations based in and serving Alabama s Black Belt to apply for one-year grants for community-led arts activities around the 12-county Black Belt region. Approximately twenty grants not to exceed $3,000.00 each with a 25% match either monetary or in-kind will be granted. The Board of Directors will announce the 2017 Black Belt Arts Grants Awards in April 2017. BBCF through its arts grants seeks to support efforts that will advance arts education, assist arts organizations, provide exposure and participation in the arts for the Black Belt citizens and communities. Grant applications should fall within the following guidelines: 1. In-school, after school and summer arts education programs. Preference will be given to organizations that will be teaching arts skills. 2. Attendance in professional development conferences and/or bring in consultants to work with capacity building within the arts organization. 3. Present and/or produce arts events for their local constituents. BBCF s mission is to forge a collective stream of giving from the community and other sources so we, the people of the Black Belt, can enhance our continuing efforts to lift ourselves by taking what we have to make what we need. WHO MAY APPLY: BBCF only funds organizations based in and serving communities in our 12-county region: Bullock, Choctaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, and Wilcox. We anticipate that grants will be awarded in each county. Projects that cross Black Belt county boundaries must include a letter of support from a partnering organization in the county where the project will be conducted. Grant Application Review Process and Timeline BBCF 2017 Arts Grant Applications will be reviewed through a comprehensive process conducted by the BBCF Arts Grant Committee. The BBCF Board of Directors will make the final decision no later than April 2017 and award grants on April 29, 2016. Funded organizations are expected to attend the grant ceremony.

Black Belt Community Foundation 2017 Arts Grant Application ADDENDUM This section has been added to reflect the new strategic goals. As you are developing your proposal, consider the following for each category (including but not limited to): Part II: Grant Request Information Select the major area your proposed ARTS project will address: IN-SCHOOL, AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS ATTENDANCE IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE AND/OR CONSULTANTS PRESENT OR PRODUCE THE ARTS FOR LOCAL CONSTITUENTS 1. In-School, after school and summer arts education programs The proposals for the above programs are to be developed around the four disciplines of art. The four disciplines of art are visual arts, music, dance and theatre/performing arts. The proposed project can be written for one discipline or a combination of the disciplines. For example, a summer art camp proposal can be written to bring in a musician to teach guitar and a visual artist to teach drawing and painting. 2. Attendance in Professional Development Conference and/or bring Consultants To attend workshops and conferences and/or bring in a consultant to enchance and build your programs. An example of this would be a local museum director attends a conference sponsored by the Alabama Museum Association in order to learn how to set up displays. Proposals for professional development would be taken from the following: a. Festivals b. Museums c. Cultural Arts Centers d. Arts Councils e. Theatre/ Performing Arts Centers 3. Present or produce the arts for local constitutents To help bring the arts to local venues. An example of this would be to sponsor a local stage at an arts festival.
