Call for Application The 1st UUM-CMU-USM International Student Conference (1 st UCUC) Conference Date: Sunday August 13 Saturday August 19, 2017 Venue: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Call for applications Global citizenship becomes a preferable characteristics of graduates that academic institutions around the world aims to cultivate into their students. According to Annette Rome of the Methodist Ladies College, Global Citizenship could be defined info 4 concepts: awareness, appreciation, understanding and responsibility. Awareness indicates that a person acknowledges all of the different cultures and individual personalities around them and understands that the world is a varied place. Appreciation means that a person sees value in all the differences around them and does not see any difference as an obstacle to unity. Understanding is a trait of global citizens that mean they are always ready to accept and consider the views and ways of others and are ready to deal with any cultural differences. The final concept, Responsibility, reminds global citizens that they must actively seek to become aware, appreciate and understand all the other citizens of the world, that they are responsible for becoming a better global citizen through learning about the different kinds of people around them. This conference will be a platform for students to exchange the experiences of student activities they have been involved in on their campuses that help develop Global Citizens.
