The Bishop s Annual Appeal is Underway! Your Support Preserves Life-Sustaining Ministry In a purposeful divine plan, God extends the prayerful support of generous Catholics to others in need. Desiring to honor God for his goodness, parishioners from St Aloysius - BR Parish support a worthy effort like the Bishop s Annual Appeal. In turn, ministries supported by the BAA put those contributions to work, every gift reaching fellow parishioners, friends and neighbors. God is good, and we are blessed to be part of the work of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. That includes the ministries of Catholic Charities, CatholicLife TV, and the Catholic School Tuition Assistance fund, each one a recipient of essential funding through the Bishop s Annual Appeal. Please consider your own involvement. Give to the Lord for All His Goodness to You. Your thoughtful response to Bishop Muench will spread the love of Christ to others and provide life-sustaining ministry to thousands of your fellow residents throughout the Diocese. Bless others. Please support the BAA. If you have not yet received a copy of this year s appeal by mail, please contact the Office of Stewardship at 336-8790 or stewardship@diobr.org. For an in depth look at the ministries or programs supported through the BAA, visit baabr.org. 40 Days for Life Wrap Up for St. Aloysius A great big thank you to all those who participated in the two days our church sponsored for the 40 Days Vigil. This is the third year that St. Aloysius has taken part in the Vigil and all three years our prayers have aided in the saving of lives. Thursday, October 17, five women entering the Delta Abortion Facility changed their mind and decided to keep their babies and not have an abortion. The count is now 13 babies saved in Baton Rouge. Nationally, thousands have been saved from abortion due to the 40 Days campaign. Prayer works!! Thanks again and God bless, Ross McCalip Parish Staff Parish Office: 343-6657 Fr. Than N. Sing a Special Song Unto the Lord! Music Survey during all Masses November 2 and 3 Our liturgies at St. Aloysius are vibrant and special. As Members of the Worship Commission, we are considering all the many possibilities to maximize the joyful celebration as we worship our Lord. We are giving careful consideration to the music performed during mass by first asking for the wisdom of the people of the assembly. When thinking about music during our liturgies, know that there are songs that all members of the congregation are invited to sing. There is also music that is purely instrumental, and there are songs that the choir performs that we listen to for spiritual inspiration or to enter more deeply into the liturgy. All of this music contributes to who we are as Catholics and what we are celebrating when we gather together as God s people. In an effort to know the songs our St. Aloysius families love to sing and to inspire you to sing more during the liturgy, the Worship Commission will conduct a music survey during all masses on the weekend of November 2 and 3, 2013. You will find survey cards in each pew listing popular St. Aloysius songs. Please check your favorite songs among those listed or add your own to the list. You will also be asked to suggest ways that our congregation might participate more in singing and prayer responses. We will ask you to leave these completed surveys in the pews at the end of mass. Thank you in advance for your input into our music ministry at St. Aloysius! Grief in the Holidays Getting Through the Holidays after a Suicide Offered by: St. Luke s Health Ministries The loss of a loved one to suicide can be especially painful during the holidays. Please join our expert from the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center to learn ways of coping and surviving the holidays after such a loss, as well as how to support those who have lost a loved one. Free and open to the public. Advance registration requested: bwilliams@stlukesbr.org or call 926-5343. St. Luke s Episcopal Church 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Witter Hall Exhibits open at 6:00 p.m. Presentation: 6:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Ministry Highlights Giving Tree By: Arline Mistretta For many years St. Aloysius Parish has sponsored the Giving Tree as a way for parishioners to help those in need in the Baton Rouge area. Our parishioners and students actually make the majority of the ornaments that represent the 11 organizations supported by our ministry: Prison Fellowship (Children of Prisoners) Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge Holy Grill Kids Joseph Home Residents Women in Crisis Pregnancies Myriam s House Bishop Ott Shelter Habitat for Humanity Boys Hope/Girls Hope Developmental Disabilities St. Vincent de Paul Sweet Dreams Cenikor This year, ornaments will be placed in baskets near the side entrances of the church beginning on November 23. Each ornament represents a particular organization and has an attached tag listing items specifically requested by that organization. Brochures will be available telling a little about the organizations and the services they provide. Gifts should be returned to the marked boxes in the back of church beginning on November 30. All gifts should be returned unwrapped. This year we will be collecting through December 15 in order to make sure all gifts are delivered to the organizations before Christmas. While we have many wonderful volunteers who make this ministry a reality, we are still in need of people to help collect the gifts from the boxes and deliver them to the specified organizations. If you would like to help, please contact me at 769-2433 or smistretta2@cox.net St. Aloysius parishioners have always been incredibly generous in supporting the Giving Tree ministry and we are thankful for your willingness to share what you have with those less fortunate.
