Spotlight: Introducing the Lockdown Winter Awareness Campaign Congratulations to Award Winning Task Forces Monthly Lockdown Tip: Proactive Media Outreach for Puffer Season CATPA Corner: CATPA Grant Cycle Begins! Contact Us CAAT is gearing up for puffer season and launching its Lockdown Winter Awareness Campaign that, with your partnership, will put auto theft in the deep freeze! This year, CAAT is capturing Colorado drivers' attention through a multi-faceted campaign that combines TV and online advertising, guerilla marketing and public education. This campaign will be supported through the following tactics: Guerilla Marketing: 6 x 4 feet stand-up "Thief Thank You" cards to be placed in empty parking spots in high foot-traffic areas. Position these giant cards in busy hot spots (malls, parking lots, venues) to draw attention to our anti-puffer message in a non-traditional and unexpected way. The inside of the card has a thank you message from the thief to the victim, showing gratitude for making the car easy to steal by leaving it running unattended to warm up. These cards are available to our task force
partners on a first come first serve basis to place in their communities. If you would like one, please contact Kadie Morgan. Puffer TV Spots: CAAT has produced a TV commercial that uses the winter theme of our campaign to make Coloradans aware of how easy it is for a thief to steal a car that is left running unattended. We've created 30- and 15-second versions of the spot so look for them on TV stations in the Denver area including KUSA, KTVD, and KCNC. A sneak peek: excited to surprise his wife with a brand new car, the husband parks the car in their driveway and leaves it running while he goes in the house to get his wife you can imagine what happens to the car while he's inside. Please let us know if you would like a copy of the TV spot leverage it with your local TV stations and ask them to run it as a public service announcement. It will also be available to embed on your websites and share on social media! Puffer Campaign Flyers and Giveaways: Plan to join us Wednesday, December 5, at the Denver Sheriff Department Vehicle Impound Facility from 10:00 a.m. until noon to pick up your task force materials and support CAAT's kick-off press event!
Available materials include campaign education flyers and Lockdown branded ice scrapers. If you're unable to attend, you will receive all materials in the mail the first week of December. Puffer Campaign Earned Media Toolkit: CAAT will be distributing a press release statewide about the new puffer campaign we encourage you to follow up on the release with your local media. Press materials for you to customize will be available in the Partner section of lockdownyourcar.org. Please contact Jane McGillem for earned media assistance. Congratulations to Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA) for receiving the Executive Board Achievement of Excellence Award, which was presented to CATPA at the 2012 Western States Auto Theft Investigators (WSATI) Training Seminar in South Lake Tahoe in October. This award recognizes the agency for its unparalleled support in combating motor vehicle crimes through public education efforts or financial support of an organization undertaking such investigations. The award was determined by a committee comprised of Western Regional Chapter Executive Board members. Congratulations are also due to EMATT and MATT for receiving a Certificate of Recognition at IAATI's 60th Annual Training Seminar in Kansas City in August. This is an international award recognizing their efforts in auto theft prevention. Our new TV commercial provides task forces with another earned media tool. Many local TV stations and local cable access channels accept public service announcements in video format. We encourage you to email the commercial to your local TV contacts and request they air it in support of our puffer prevention efforts. The spot is available by request. Please email Kadie Morgan to get a copy! Media also loves having a visual to go along with a news story. When the weather forecast calls for a drop in temperature, set up a ride-along with a member of your local media. Invite them to be on hand as a stream of puffer theft calls come in to your department. Do you have a local story that you need help pitching? Please contact Jane McGillem for earned media assistance. A message from Diana Pratt Wilson, CATPA Grant Manager It is that time of year again when the preparation for the upcoming CATPA Grant Cycle begins! This year is very exciting, as CATPA unveils the new Colorado Grants Management System (COGMS)!
Current and potential CATPA Grantees are invited to take a tour of this system. DATE: December 13 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. WHERE: Red Rocks Community College EMS Computer Lab, Room 3750 During the morning, we will "walk" through the CATPA COGMS process. This will give each attendee a brief introduction to the system from Application to Grant Close-Out. In the afternoon, I will be available to assist in setting up User Accounts, and begin the CATPA Application process. At a minimum, the Project Director should plan on attending. The COGMS will be the mechanism for applying for a CATPA Grant, submitting all reports, requesting reimbursement, and complete execution of the CATPA Grant beginning July 1, 2013. There are only 25 seats available for this training, so for now attendance is limited to no more than 2 people for each grant. In the event there are more than 25 requesting attendance, Project Directors will be given priority for this training. Please RSVP for this training by December 3, 2012. I will send out more detailed location information at this time. Looking forward to seeing you all!!
