MIDEAST DIVISION BULLETIN Marine Corps League August 2018 Members of the Mideast Division, National Vice Commandant The heat of the summer is here! I truly hope that all of you have been enjoying it and making the most of it with family and friends. Over the past couple of months, I was privileged to attend all five Departments Conventions and perform the Installation of Officers for them as well. Every Department is doing well and performing our League mission successfully! Our Division Conference, hosted by the Department of Maryland, was an outstanding success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that attended! I already look forward to next year s Conference hosted by the Department of West Virginia. As we look forward to the National Convention in Buffalo, New York, please remember to mail in your Convention registration forms as soon as possible. Also, take the time to read the proposed Bylaw changes that have been submitted. These proposals, if approved, reshape our League. It is important that the proposals submitted benefit the entire organization and not just a few. This is why your attendance, and votes, are so important there. I always stress that communication is the key to any successful organization. Remember to always forward on every email you receive from your Division Adjutant, Frank Mathers, to every member within your Department. The information he provides you is essential to the growth of our Division. I also encourage you to visit our Division website (mclmideast.com) several times a month for any new information as well. My first year as your National Vice Commandant is coming to a close. I have thoroughly enjoyed this past year and all of support that every member has given me! I have appreciated every email, phone call and face to face conversation that I have had. I look forward to this next year and working with every Department Commandant to assist them in achieving their goals. Let s always remember our Marines and Corpsmen in harm s ways and always remember to take care of yourselves and each other! Semper Fidelis, Bruce R. Rakfeldt National Vice Commandant Mideast Division Marine Corps League

Greetings to all, Mideast Division Auxiliary Vice President Department and MidEast conventions are over and we are all getting ready for the trip to Buffalo. I want to thank Cindy Wolfe for the kind hospitality as I attended the Maryland Department Convention. I had a great time and hope all that attended did too. Have been very busy here in North Carolina. We have unfortunately lost a few Detachment members and helped with rituals and anything to make it easier for the families. Had the honor to build a ramp and a deck for a handicap retired Marine who has been housebound for months. Between the League and the girls from the Auxiliary we helped feed and keep the guys hydrated in the Carolina heat. Our Auxiliary has been supporting the Fisher House on Camp LeJeune with food gifts, decorations for the different holidays and new wreaths for the front doors. One of our own, Debrah Ryan made them in red, white and blue with eagles on them. We thanked her for the work and time she put in to making them. The girls also have gathered infant clothing for Operation Little Angel to be given to Harvest House at Convention. The big news coming out of the whole Mideast is the formation of a new unit in Raleigh North Carolina. Pam Thomas has stepped up and is very excited about forming Tarheel Unit 733. She is starting out with 14 members and her excitement is contagious. I looking forward to this unit doing great things as time goes on and I know it will grow. Thank you Pam for a job well done in getting this started. Hope you all have a great time at Convention. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making more. Semper Fi! ATTENTION ON DECK! If you re paying attention, you ll notice that your numbers may not be the same as you see on the June National roster. This is due to a glitch in the system marking paid Associate members as unpaid. I manually went through the June roster and added them back into your paid total. Make sure you pay attention to your National rosters in case there are glitches such as this in the future! Editor s Corner Hello, all! You ll notice this issue of the bulletin is rather thin. I only received submissions from the MidEast Division National Vice Commandant and the Auxiliary National Vice President. This is such a shame as I feel that the Departments and Detachments could be utilizing this tool in order to get out information, or to showcase the good work being done within your units. This bulletin comes out a few weeks after the National Roster is published, so when you get your rosters, put a note on your calendars to send me an update of some sort. I would like to see this bulletin become a go to for sharing information. It s almost time for the National Convention in Buffalo, NY. I am looking forward to seeing those who live all over the Country. It is a busy week, but always a good time. I hope to see you all there!
