GENDER-NET Plus Joint Call 2018 General Facts GENDER-NET Plus ERA-NET Cofund launched September 15, 2017 and will run until 2022. Pooling national and European funding: 16 committed organisations in 13 countries plus the EC 10.9m available for research integrating a gender dimension into projects relating to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including over 3m EC Cofunding. Supporting excellent collaborative research across borders and beyond the state-of-the-art and knowledge exchange with non-academic audiences. 2

Joint Call Topics GENDER-NET Plus invites applications that address and explore interactions and interdependencies explicitly between SDG 5 Gender Equality and one or more of the following SDGs: SDG 3 Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 13 Climate Action. Applicants may address one or more of the outlined topics. For any chosen topic, an interdisciplinary approach is needed, addressing the interplay between society, technology, culture. Research that addresses the social gender dimension is strongly encouraged. 3

Partner Search Tool A GENDERNET Plus Partner search tool is available through Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR): http://gender-net-plus.eu/joint-call/partnering/. 7

General Eligibility Pre-proposals must be submitted before the deadline of Thursday, 1 st March 2018 at 17:00 CET (Central European Time). Min. three eligible Principal Investigators (PIs) from min. three eligible countries: Austria, Belgium (Wallonia-Brussels Federation), Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Spain or Sweden. There is no limit on the number of partners. Project Coordinator (main applicant) should also be from one of the 13 listed countries. Maximum budget per project (across all partners): 1 M Project duration: Between 24 to 36 months. Projects must start by 1 st March 2019 and finish by 31 st December 2021 at the latest. 8

IRC Eligibility Requirements For all Irish partners together, the maximum budget is 300k (in total for all years). If the entire project is coordinated by an Irish partner, the maximum budget for all Irish partners together is 400k (in total for all years) which is inclusive of overhead. Please note that applicants are advised to submit their proposed budget to the IRC for review prior to the submission of their proposal. Please aim to submit your budget a week in advance of the outline proposal submission deadline (5pm, Thursday, 22 nd February). Principal Investigators At least 3 PIs from 3 different eligible countries. Each PI leads research activities at his/her institution. Each partner must have a PI considered eligible for funding by the GENDER-NET Plus funding organisation in that country, see Funding Organisation Rules. Each PI must be eligible according the rules of his/her national funding organisation. 10

Project Coordinator Each Collaborative Research Project (CRP) is to have a designated Project Coordinator (PC) who is one of the PIs in the project. PC is a senior researcher with solid experience of managing collaborative research projects. Take equality and diversity dimension issues into consideration i.e. where possible include early career stage researchers and female researchers. PC submits the proposal on behalf of the whole project consortium and is the contact point for the project. 11

Associate Partners Associate Partner (AP) - a partner that will participate in the research but will not be funded by the GENDER-NET Plus. The AP is not considered in the minimum number of three partners mentioned above. AP provides a formal declaration to have secured its own funding for participation in the CRP. A letter of commitment must be submitted by the AP which specifies the contribution of the partner to the CRP. The contribution of these partners to the CRP s knowledge exchange potential should be well integrated in the work plan. CVs of Associate Partners can be, but need not be, included in the proposal. 12

Description of the Project (max 5 pages) What research question(s) does the CRP seek to answer? In what way is the project original and/or innovative? What are the objectives of the CRP? By what methods will the research question(s) be tackled? How are the skills of the partners complementary? What is the added value in tackling your research question(s) from a European trans-national perspective? How will partners work together? What management and coordination structures are proposed? What is the significance of the research question(s)? How will these contribute to the call topics? To what extent will the research outcomes add value inside and/or outside of academia? How will the CRP engage in knowledge exchange or active dissemination or exploitation of results? 13

Selection Process: Two stages Two-step selection process, Pre-Proposal Phase and Full Proposal Phase. Pre-proposals and full proposals must be submitted (in English) by the Project Coordinator electronically via the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS). Evaluation of proposals submitted under the call will be carried out by an international Scientific Evaluation Committee (SEC). External reviewers may be consulted to perform scientific reviews of proposals requiring specific expertise at both the pre-proposal and the full proposal phases. 17

Timeline 19

Review Panel A minimum of 16 SEC members will participate in the evaluation and selection of pre- and full proposals under the Joint Call. The members of the SEC will be internationally recognised experts in gender and in the topics selected for the Joint Call. Conflict of Interest guidelines are applied throughout the selection process. The names of the SEC members will be published after the Call for Proposals is launched. All questions about the selection should be directed to gendernet@research.ie 20

Selection Criteria for Pre-Proposals In the outline proposal phase, the SEC will select proposals by applying the following criteria: Research excellence How well the proposal addresses the call topics Sound concept and quality of objectives Progress beyond state of the art Quality and effectiveness of the research methodology Potential impact Extent to which the research outcomes are likely to be of value inside and/or outside of academia Appropriateness of measures for the dissemination and/or exploitation of results European Added Value (including Canada) 21

What should you do to succeed? Contact your National Contact Point, if you have questions. Make sure you understand the evaluation criteria. Describe your project idea (e.g. objectives, methodology, collaboration and potential impact) within the given word/page limits. Arrange face-to-face or virtual meetings with your project partners when writing the proposal to ensure coherence of ideas. Use clear and straightforward language. Upload your proposal well ahead of the submission deadline. Register in time. 22
