Accept and authorize the President of the Board to sign the Letter of Award for additional funds from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in the amount of $54,625 for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010, to support tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control activities; and 2. Authorize the Auditor-Controller to make budget adjustments as outlined In the Financial Recommendation. SUMMARY/ DISCUSSIONfFINDINGS: On October 13,2009, your Board accepted the TB Local Assistance Base Award from the CDPH in the amount of $643,194 for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. CDPH Tuberculosis Control Branch has identified additional federal funds for fiscal year 2009-2010 and is making these funds available to support TB prevention and control activities in local public health jurisdictions through an augmentation to the base awards. The TB financial assistance fund will be used to support activities which address the highest priorities in TB control: Identifying and treating persons who have active TB and ensuring they complete appropriate therapy, and in exceptional cases, using confinement measures. Finding and screening persons who have been in contact with TB patients to determine whether they have TB infection or disease, and providing them with appropriate treatment.
The Honorable Board of Supervisors Page 2 of2 Screening high-risk populations to detect persons who are infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis and could benefit from therapy to prevent the infection from progressing to TB disease. FINANCING: The funding for this award is not included in the FY 2009-10 Adopted Budget. Budget adjustments are necessary to align the allocation with the County budget.
