Youth Residential Support Worker Work Type: Classification: Salary Package:. Annual Leave: Over Award Conditions: Hours of Work: Fixed Term 6 months Part-Time (Maternity Leave Position) Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Crisis Accommodation Level 1, Pay Point 1 4 pending qualifications and experience. Ordinary hourly rate from $26.59 to $29.29 plus 9.5% superannuation and shift allowances. Access to generous NFP tax concessions (specifically, a salary packaging scheme offering up to $18,450 of your salary tax free) Pro rata 5 weeks Provided in accordance with Hope Street Policy Afternoon Shift Allowance additional 2.5% total allowance of 15% Personal/Carers Leave additional 2 days per year (total of 12 days) during first year of service. 35 hours per fortnight (with additional hours of work as required/negotiated in accordance with the SCHADS award) Hours of work are scheduled as per the roster; Tuesday sleepover (weekly), Saturday sleepover (fortnightly) and Sunday day shift (fortnightly). All sleepovers start at 4pm to 11.30pn and 7.30am to 9.00am the following day. The sleepover shift is not a stand up shift. The day shifts start at 8:30am to 4:30pm. The Youth Residential Program (Refuge) operates to a 24 hour x 14 days a fortnight roster. Extra shifts may be available occasionally. Extra paid hours may be required for compulsory meetings, or as negotiated with Program Manager North East. Responsible to: Program Manager North-East Agency Information: Hope Street Youth and Family Services (Hope Street) catchment includes the North and West Department of Human Services Divisions of Melbourne. The Youth Residential Program provides emergency supported accommodation to young people and young people with children with complex needs who are homeless and in crisis. The Youth Residential Support Worker position is one of five permanent positions and a small pool of casual staff fulfilling the day to day responsibilities of the Youth Residential Program over a 24 hour/7 day a week period. The Program has a strong client and team focus and is supervised and led by the Program Manager North East. The Youth Residential Program team were closely with other Hope Street programs based at the same site including: The Youth Support Services Program, Boost Program, Youth Reconciliation Program and Homeless Youth Dual Diagnosis Program. Hope Street is a multi-faceted, community based agency, which delivers a broad range of responsive supports to young people by way of six programs. Each program specialises in an area of youth centred service. This is achieved via our programs namely: Boost Enhanced youth refuge response (refer below) program providing An immediate response to young people with a focus on early intervention Youth Residential 24 hour supported crisis accommodation providing safety, stability, food, case management,linkages to services, living skills as well as access to resources to address needs. Youth Support Service Intensive outreach assistance to maintain existing housing, or secure affordable housing as well as one to one assistance to access specialist services such as health, legal, educational, parenting. Youth Reconciliation Specialist one to one strengths based, solutions focused counselling. Also supports young people to reconnect with their families. Hope Street In Melton Medium term residential accommodation with intensive client centred case management empowering young people to strengthen their housing employment, education, personal and social development. Hope Street In Whittlesea: Medium term residential accommodation with intensive client centred case management empowering young people to strengthen their housing employment, education, personal and social development. RDNS Royal District Nursing Service Homeless Person s Initiative is an on site service provided 3 days per week in which a youth specific nurses assists with all aspects of a young persons health needs. Homeless Youth Dual Diagnosis Initiative: Youth Homelessness capacity building initiative for improved responses to young people with dual diagnosis or emerging complex needs. At all times, interact and support young people in accordance with the values, standards, philosophy and principles of the Hope Street Youth and Family Services Inc. Assist young people accommodated in the Youth Residential Program (refuge) with day to day living skills; Uphold young people s rights and responsibilities as developed by Hope Street s including the delivery of the refuge accommodation in accordance with the Hope Street s policies and procedures; As required, assist young people to follow up actions per their case management plans established with their case manager including areas such as housing; income; education and training; health and wellbeing and general living skills; Complete daily client file notes and store in accordance with policy and procedure; Maintain a safe work and living environment per industry standards and Hope Street s frameworks and policies and procedures; Monitor and promote an harmonious environment for clients, staff and visitors at all times; Perform the duties of the day to day operation of the refuge in accordance with the policies, procedures and practice of the organisation including household tasks such as food orders/shopping, cleaning, cooking, washing, tidying; Accept and process referrals in accordance with Hope Street s policies and procedures including conducting intake; Participate in relevant client, staff and organisational meetings as required; 2. Professional Development Participate in internal and external professional development Receive supervision and support from the Program Manager North East Complete Annual Performance Appraisal with the Program Manager North East Develop and implement an Annual Work Plan 3. Administration Administrative duties to ensure maintenance of day to day operations including Petty Cash, Time Sheets, Housing Establishment Funds, in accordance with the Hope Street Policy and Procedures. 4. Other Contribute to the ongoing strengthening of collaborative, productive and harmonious team relations; Assist with the induction of new staff Other duties as negotiated from time to time with the Programs Manager North East and/or Operations Manager or CEO. Key Selection Criteria: Essential 1. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to respond to the needs of young people within a residential environment. 2. Understanding of the causes of youth homelessness including risk factors, protective factors and support needs; 3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate, listen, motivate and support young people to enable change; including those with complex needs and challenging behaviours; 4. Excellent written and verbal skills including writing client file notes, handovers, reports, minutes, letters and other correspondence as required; 5. Demonstrated highly developed communication skills including listening, negotiation, problem solving, decision making and advocacy; 6. Demonstrated application of industry approaches to practice and standards; 7. Experience with implementing agency assessments, agreements, policies and procedures, rights and responsibilities with clients; 8. Contribute constructively as a team member for the benefit of the whole organisation; 9. Experience in managing the household duties required for the residence such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, communicating about supplies and maintenance. 10. Tertiary qualification (or final year of study) in Social Sciences (eg BA Youth Affairs, Social Work) or equivalent; 11. Competency in using Windows software applications and capacity to maintain appropriate records and files. Key Selection Criteria: Desirable 1. Experience in group youth residential services for homeless and/or disadvantaged youth. 2. Experience in working with young people to develop and improve their living skills. 3. Understanding of trauma-informed approaches when working with young people. 4. Knowledge of housing/accommodation and support programs for young people who are homeless; 5. Relevant second language.
