The report provides a useful medium to document the status and progress of individual chapters. Annual Reports are used to evaluate applications for SEG support and to keep information up-to-date on the SEG website. Please provide a summary of chapter activities in a concise form as suggested below. Description of programs may be supported by a limited number of photographs and figures in a format appropriate for publishing on our website. University of Oregon/Oregon State University SEG Joint Student Chapter Summary of Activities: 2016 2017 1. Regular meetings, lectures. Biweekly meetings, and special seminar series on Lithocaps and Zircon Geochemistry of Porphyry Cu Deposits. 2. Field trips (dates, area visited, field trip leaders, number of participants, sponsors, benefits for students). Note: this is not the place for a detailed field trip report that is required from a chapter who has received funding from the Stewart R. Wallace Fund. Unfortunately, our student chapter was not able to organize a field trip during the 2016 2017 school year, due primarily to the time intensive field work schedules of several of the chapter members. However, we plan to resume field trip activities during the upcoming year (see below). 3. If your chapter received funding from the Stewart R. Wallace Fund, please submit a separate actual accounting of how chapter funds were spent/used. 4. 8. Future plans. This year, we will attempt to rejuvenate our SEG Chapter by resuming field trip activities and enhancing our number of members. The mining industry does not have a large presence in Oregon and consequently, few undergraduate and graduate students in the geosciences at Oregon State University contemplate careers in mineral exploration. Recruit additional graduate and undergraduate students. Convince more undergraduate students to attend the Association of Mineral Exploration RoundUp in Vancouver, BC. This conference is easy to access from Oregon, cheap for students, and a good opportunity to network and learn about potential jobs in Alaska (mineral exploration companies, and Alaska Department of Natural Resources). Organize an SEG student field trip to a location in the continental USA. Possible theme: porphyry Cu deposits of Arizona. Continuation of weekly or biweekly meetings. During the upcoming year, members of the Oregon State University/University of Oregon Chapter plan on attending: GSA Annual Meeting (October, 2017) AGU General Meeting (December, 2017) AME RoundUp (January, 2018) Gordon Research Conference (August, 2018) SEG Annual Conference (September, 2018)
