Spark Foundation New York & Washington DC Summit The Spark Global Philanthropic Foundation is excited to announce a group of approximately 50 students and parents will travel to New York & Washington DC this fall for a series of educational seminars and a luncheon with some of the world s top philanthropists such as Petra Nemcova, Amed Khan, Stuart Weitzman and other guest speakers (TBA), whose philanthropic work is striving to create positive change around the world. Students will have the unprecedented opportunity to interact with these world class philanthropists, hear stories of their philanthropic journeys and experiences, as well as ask them questions. Students will also have exclusive presentations and private briefings at the United Nations headquarters, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Red Cross headquarters and the White House. This summit will occur November 1st to 6th 2018. The cost of this trip is subsidized partially by Spark. The cost for newly enrolled 2018 Spark students is $750.00 and for returning students $1,500.00. Parents are invited to attend. The cost for the trip includes the following: Return airfare Vancouver-New York & Washington-Vancouver Transportation from New York to Washington Shared accommodation for 3 nights at a hotel in New York and 2 night accommodation at a hotel in Washington DC Local transportation 50% of meals Seminar & Speaker expenses Insurance (cancellation and out-of-country medical) Costs not included are: personal shopping, transportation to and from YVR, passport and/or visa arrangements. We believe that this trip will provide an invaluable experience for students to grow in their global awareness. By participating in this experience, students will engage in and apply the following skills related to the Spark Philanthropy Program: Interact and collaborate by exploring ideas, comparing and creating with other students. Examine the investment strategies and business models of foundations created by philanthropists such as Petra Nemcova, Stuart Weitzman, and Amed Khan, and determine how these strategies could be aligned with student's philanthropic goals. Trip Highlights Tentative Speakers Petra Nemcova Philanthropist, Entrepreneur and Supermodel. Petra founded her charity, Happy Hearts Fund, in 2005 with a mission to rebuild safe, resilient schools in areas impacted by natural disasters. Since its inception, she has been involved on a daily basis. Her initial work in an executive capacity has helped establish the structure, vision, and strategy that positioned HHF for long-term success. Petra has been the key motivation and drive behind the cause of rebuilding schools for children forgotten after natural disasters due to lack of sustained response. Stuart Weitzman Philanthropist, Entrepreneur & Shoe Designer Stuart is an American shoe designer, entrepreneur and founder of the shoe company, Stuart Weitzman. Weitzman has designed footwear for Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. He is also the Founder of the Weitzman Family Foundation, which supports education, hospitals, underprivileged children s schooling, athletic charitable organizations such as the United States Olympic Committee and Maccabi USA and Jewish people in need in foreign lands. Amed Khan Philanthropist Amed Khan has had an active career in both the public and private sectors, including a wealth of experience from political campaigns, government service and international relief work. Mr. Khan currently directs Paradigm Global Group, a private international investment firm with a focus on Commercial Real Estate, Energy and Technology. He is the founder of Elpida Home, a public private initiative based in Thessaloniki, Greece that provides refugees the humane international protection they are entitled to.
