half day workshops Aerial Lifts Aerial lift platforms are vital pieces of equipment used at various worksites. Their proper use is critical to the safety of both the operator and his or her coworkers. Topics covered in this workshop will include: types and components of platforms, preoperational (safety) requirements, safe operation techniques and fall protection. Communication Skills Communicating key safety information is an essential component of a safety management system. This workshop is geared toward supervisors and safety representatives and anyone tasked with the responsibility of ensuring worker safety. Due diligence, documentation and reasonable and practical techniques for communicating essential safety information will be highlighted. Developing Safe Work Procedures This course provides an overview of hazard assessment, risk assessment and controls. The main emphasis of the course is job hazard analysis and how that translates into a SAFE work procedure that can be used on the job. Legislation requires all employers to develop safe work procedures for work that is done at the workplace, train their workers in the safe procedures and ensure worker compliance. This session will assist all levels of an organization s employees to: recognize when a written procedure is required, conduct an analysis on a particular work task to identify the steps, hazards and controls and write the final step-by-step procedure. Environmental Building Hazards During Construction and Renovation Concerns and problems posed by the presence of Environmental Building Hazards such as asbestos, mould, and radon in buildings will be the focus of this workshop. Friable asbestos materials (which can readily release asbestos upon disturbance during maintenance, renovation or demolition) can have a serious impact on a building s value, planned renovations or demolition, or even on the ability of an owner to lease space within the building. Mould identification, classification and remediation techniques will also be detailed. Additionally, the emerging risk of Radon will be discussed. Ergonomics (MSI Risk Assessment Commercial/Residential) This course explains how musculoskeletal injuries (MSI) can develop in the construction / field environment and what can be done to prevent them. Incident Investigation When there s an incident on your site, it s key to determine what caused the event and how to prevent a reoccurrence. This workshop will provide Management, Supervisors and Safety Committee Members and Representatives with the information they require to develop an effective investigation policy and procedures. A practical investigation element outlining legal obligations will be included with the focus on developing effective recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence.

half day workshops Inspections The identification of hazards is a vital component of an organization s overall safety and loss prevention system and a legal requirement under the WSH Act & Regulation. This workshop will provide Supervisors and Safety Representatives with information on various types of inspections, required documentation, and communication and control techniques. Prime Contractor and Project Safety Plans Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Legislation requires a Prime Contractor to be designated on all construction projects where more than one employer or self-employed person(s) are involved in work on site at the same time. The Prime Contractor is granted overall responsibility to ensure compliance with WSH regulations at the worksite. Worksite activities need to be coordinated so that the work of one employer does not create unsafe conditions for the workers of another employer on the site. Since construction projects vary in size, hazard exposure, and working conditions, a written site-specific plan has become customary for all construction projects regardless of size and duration. CSAM s THE Safety Conference Prime Contractor & Project Safety Plans course will focus on providing companies with effective guidelines to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities, giving instruction on how to create a project safety plans and help with developing practical methods to meet these requirements. Residential Site Safety For Supervisors - Sub Management Do you subcontract your work? Are you an owner of land or buildings where other persons will be hired to conduct their work? Has your company been designated as the Prime Contractor at a worksite? If you answered yes to either of these questions, are need to be aware of your legal obligations. This workshop will provide practical solutions to assist in the development of an effective subcontractor management system to help ensure that all work is being done in a safe manner, in accordance with applicable Workplace Safety Regulations and allows you to show due diligence. Rigging, Inspection and Hoisting The safe movement of heavy loads is critical to construction site safety and operations. Rigging fundamentals, slinging, fibre and rope knots, wire rope and chain, the operation of cranes and hoists, signals and safety fundamentals are discussed in this workshop. This program will give you a general awareness of safe procedures and correct hardware required at your construction site. Safety Representative and Committees Legally, every employer on every jobsite must have at minimum a designated safety representative and/or a safety committee familiar with their legal duties and responsibilities. What s happening on your work sites? What should you be doing? This workshop is specifically tailored to the roles of the site worker safety representatives and committee members. Learn the guidelines and practical solutions to dealing with your legislated responsibilities for safety and health concerns on the jobsite and within your company. Scaffolding Safety Fatal or disabling injuries continue to result from workers falling from scaffolding that has been misused or poorly constructed. This workshop identifies the hazards inherent with different types of portable equipment and discusses safe work procedures required to use the equipment without risk to workers. Skid Steer Safety Does your company own or regularly rent a skid steer? If so then this course is tailored for you. Skid Steer Safety will provide participants with a general understanding of the safe and efficient operation of a Skid Steer. Participants will be able to identify specific safety hazards associated with operating a Skid Steer and how to write a proper safe work procedure to deal with the day to day use. Understanding Workplace Safety and Health Enforcement Confusion and sometimes fear or negativity often accompany a visit from a government Workplace Safety and Health Officer on a jobsite. This presentation facilitated by WSH Officers will help participants understand why officers visit worksites, what your responsibilities are once an officer comes on site, what is involved in WSH inspections and investigations, and what exactly an improvement order or stop work order is as well as how to satisfy the order.
