Page 2 Alice Watkins Scholarship Alice Watkins Senter's family established this scholarship in her name to honor her. She was gifted in poetry and music, but her life was shortened by a tragic and incurable illness. The Senter family wanted to celebrate her most productive and happy times by awarding a Wade Hampton High School student, with a love of English, Literature, and Poetry, an opportunity to pursue a degree in higher education. The only member of her family to attend college, she blossomed as a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Her poetry was published in the school journal, and she wrote the lyrics to the senior class song. She became a pastor's wife, and in 1949, the family moved to Greenville where three of her four children graduated from Wade Hampton High School. She is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, and this scholarship is offered in her memory. Applicant must be a graduating senior at Wade Hampton High School. Applicant must declare an intended major in the areas of English, Literature, or Poetry at an accredited higher education institution located in South Carolina. Applicant must be accepted to an institution of higher learning prior to applying. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 (un-weighted) scale in high school. One scholarship award will be made annually. Students who demonstrate a desire to pursue studies in poetry will be given preference. Prior scholarship award recipients may not apply for subsequent awards. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Foundation s current bylaws, approves advisory committee members annually. AWARD AMOUNT: $10,000 Scholarship funds will be paid in two installments ($5,000 per semester) to the approved educational institution in the name of the recipient and applied only to the costs of tuition, room and board, or required fees. Scholarship recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA. If scholarship eligibility is lost during the first semester, the 2 nd installment of $5,000 will not be issued. Scholarship funds are awarded for one academic year and are not subject to renewal.

Page 4 Greenville County Fire Chiefs Association Scholarship In 1995, the Greenville County Fire Chiefs Association established a scholarship fund to promote higher education for firefighters and/or families of firefighters. Applicant must be either active fire service personnel (full-time or volunteer) or the immediate children of fire service personnel interested in higher education in a fire science, allied health, or teaching career. Applicant must be a member in good standing or the immediate child of a member in good standing of a Greenville County Fire Chiefs Association affiliated department. Applicant must be accepted to an institution of higher learning prior to applying. Education provider must be a recognized training organization that offers a curriculum in fire service (i.e., Fire Administration, Fire Engineering), allied health, or teaching. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Applications will be judged based upon completeness, community involvement, citizenship, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. Page 5 Greenville County Library Staff Education Fund in Memory of Anthony Messineo The purpose the Greenville County Library Staff Education Fund in Memory of Anthony Messineo ("Fund") is to provide financial assistance to Greenville County Library System ( Library ) staff members who are seeking educational advancement through specialized course work, course work leading to a Bachelor s degree in an appropriate job-related field and/or a Master s degree in Library and Information Science. Applicant must be a current full-time staff member of the Greenville County Library System and have at least twelve months of uninterrupted service prior to submitting an application. A staff member who has received a Written Warning or Final Written Warning within the past 12 months is not eligible to receive scholarship funds. Scholarship requests shall be made for specialized course work, a Bachelor s degree in an appropriate job-related field and/or a Master s degree in Library and Information Science. The Greenville Library Staff Education Fund Scholarship Committee ( Committee ) shall act as the advisory committee for the Fund and will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Foundation s current bylaws, approves advisory committee members annually. Tuition, institutional fees, and required course related expenses (books, supplies, and equipment) are qualified educational expenses. ACCOUNTABILITY: Applicants and recipients must notify the Library s Human Resources Specialist of any changes that may affect their status. Staff members who receive a scholarship and do not complete the course(s) for which a scholarship is received must reimburse the Fund. Scholarship recipients must submit to the Library s Human Resources Specialist a grade report or certificate for course(s) taken with scholarship funds. At the Committee s discretion, staff members who receive a scholarship and leave the Library within 12 months of receiving the scholarship may be asked to reimburse the Fund. AWARD AMOUNT: Award amount and number of awards are determined annually based on the Community Foundation of Greenville s Spending Policy for Endowment Funds. Scholarship awards will be made for one academic year and will be paid to an approved educational institution in the name of the recipient.

Scholarship recipients shall be invited to attend those meetings to be introduced. Page 7 Margaret and Jack Paylor Family Scholarship Fund The Margaret and Jack Paylor Family Scholarship Fund was created to provide financial assistance for higher education attainment to economically disadvantaged students residing in Greenville County and planning to attending a South Carolina public college/university. Applicant must be a resident of Greenville County, South Carolina. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 (un-weighted) scale in high school. First-time applicant must be a rising freshman planning to attend a South Carolina public college/university. Applicant must be accepted to an institution of higher learning prior to applying. Applicant must demonstrate financial need (economically disadvantaged). Prior scholarship award recipients may apply for subsequent awards. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Applications will be considered based upon financial need, completeness, community involvement, citizenship, academic achievement, and leadership. Foundation s current bylaws, approves advisory committee members annually. AWARD AMOUNT: $5,000 per academic year The goal of this fund is to award four $5,000 scholarships annually for a total annual distribution of $20,000. The number of annual awards is limited to the fund s distributable amount based on the terms outlined in the Fund Agreement. All award distributions will be made by the Community Foundation on the recommendation of the Scholarship Advisory Committee and will be paid in two installments ($2,500 per semester) to an approved educational institution in the name of the recipient. Scholarship recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA. If scholarship eligibility is lost during the first semester of an academic year, the second installment of $2,500 will not be issued. Obermier Scholarship Fund in Memory of John N. Obermier, Edith M. Obermier and Mary Belle Obermier Page 9 Mary Belle Obermier established this scholarship with a gift from her estate in 2012. Her intent was to help academically deserving students who need financial assistance to be able to attend college and to give preference to qualified students who are committed to a career in the United States Navy. The preference for naval students is in recognition of the US Navy careers of her deceased husband, John, and his deceased first wife, Edith, who were both veterans of World War II. Applicant must demonstrate financial need (economically disadvantaged). Applicant must have a college or university GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicant must be a rising Junior or Senior college/university student accepted to or enrolled in a collegiate US Navy ROTC program in South Carolina. Preference in the selection process will be given, in the following order, to qualified applicants who are (1) residents of Greer, SC, (2) residents of South Carolina, and (3) residents of all other states. Award recipients are eligible to apply for subsequent awards on an annual basis. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Page 11 Rama Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Greenville City Fire Department The Rama Family established the scholarship in 2006 with the purpose of promoting opportunities for higher education for children of members of the Greenville City Fire Department by awarding grants for tuition and required fees. Children of full-time (active, retired, permanently disabled, or deceased) employees with two or more years of service to the Greenville City Fire Department are eligible. Applicant must be seeking a Baccalaureate or Associate degree from an accredited institution on a full-time basis Applicant must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Applicant must have received college acceptance prior to applying. Applicant must NOT be receiving a full scholarship that covers all institutional expenses. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Applications will be judged based upon completeness, community involvement, citizenship, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. Page 12 John I. Smith Charities Scholarship Established in 1989 by John I. Smith Charities to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged students. Applicant must be a high school graduate. Applicant must be accepted at a qualifying college, university, or technical school. Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Applicant must currently have and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Students and/or a student whose parent/s participate in any of the Greenville Housing Authorities Housing Programs will receive first priority in the selection process. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations. Applications will be judged based upon completeness, community involvement, citizenship, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. Scholarships are renewable for four years, although fifth-year awards are made under certain circumstances. Foundation s current bylaws, approves advisory committee members annually. AWARD AMOUNT: $800.00 per semester for up to 4 years At least one scholarship will be awarded annually. Page 14 The Environmental Education Grant The fund was established in 1997 to benefit a person residing in Bermuda who intends to pursue a degree or diploma in the general field of environmental studies at a qualifying college, university, or other institution in the United States. This scholarship was designed to promote and encourage the study of conservation, ecology, agriculture, horticulture, and related subjects, and to recognize the importance of promoting these subjects as they relate to the appreciation, enhancement, and conservation of Bermuda s environment. Applicant must be a resident of Bermuda. Applicant must attend an accredited college, university, or other educational establishment in the U.S., which is approved by the Grants Committee. Applicant must plan to study conservation, ecology, agriculture, horticulture, or a related subject, which will lead to a degree or diploma in any of these subjects. A Scholarship Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications on an objective and non-discriminatory basis and for making award recommendations.
