Trauma Trends Trauma Education Day Presented by ED and Trauma Committee Tuesday, October 16, 2018 0730-1700 System Main Campus Battenfeld Auditorium, in the Student This is a free consortium geared at EMS providers and registered nurses in the ED, ICU and acute care areas. Anyone providing care to trauma patients is invited to attend. The course provides 8.5 trauma-approved nursing contact hours, and EMS trauma hours are available.

Program description This consortium will incorporate current guidelines, evidence-based principles and innovative, thought-provoking elements of trauma care throughout the continuum. Audience This offering is recommended to all healthcare providers who interact with critically ill adult and/ or pediatric trauma patients and any professionals interested in the care of the trauma patient. Including, but not limited to, prehospital personnel, ED staff, ICU and acute care nurses. Objectives The learner will be able to: Understand limb-threatening vs. lifethreatening injuries Discuss pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of neurological trauma Interpret imaging of neurological trauma Explain traumatic brain injury management medical, surgical and future direction Describe spinal cord injury management medical, surgical and future direction Outline the daily practices and procedures of a flight nurse/flight medic Review air transport interfacility transfers and scene flights. Discuss intracranial physiology Discuss immediate management of gunshot wounds to the head Demonstrate the brainstem neurologic exam Identify current trauma practice guidelines and research developments Interpret the basics of chest and abdominal radiograph Discuss current practice trends in EMS care of the trauma patient Define how a trauma system works, what our regional trauma system is, regional trauma statistics, how activation criteria work and common misconceptions in trauma Accreditation System is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing s Commission on Accreditation. CNE This program has been approved for 8.5 contact hours. To receive credit, you must attend this program in its entirety and complete the program evaluation. EMS The University of Kansas Hospital, as an approved provider by the Kansas Board of EMS, has approved this offering for 8.0 continuing education hours toward EMT/EMT-P relicensure Course Provider #PP5000.
