MIACC Naples Boat Show Downtown kicks off season Full photo gallery: facebook.com/miaccboatshow. Special events were another crowd pleaser of the show. Fishware Outfitters, who sponsored the event, offered Naples Boat Show T-shirts to the first 100 people at the show. Mercury Marine and Gulf Coast Boat Sales hosted the Are You A Better Pilot Than a 5th Grader? competition in joystick control. Four young students were given the opportunity of a lifetime when they got to pilot a 2015 Formula 310 Bowrider with new joystick control technology; puts a whole new meaning to video-gaming. After summer recess and some contention with City Council officials on the issues of parking and the closing of a city block, show coordinators were able to address all of council s concerns and received approval for the event just 2-days before set-up commenced. Nothing like pressure under fire says Tiffany Sawyer who coordinated the event. I am just thankful that the City of Naples supported this first event in downtown Naples so that we could offer our members, the area businesses, our vendors and the community this fun surf-n-turf event. The inaugural Naples Boat Show Downtown was held the first weekend of October at the Naples City Dock and Crayton Cove. The weather couldn t have been better if we d ordered it, says Sawyer. Show goers enjoyed the area s first cold-snap on the second day of the event and avoided the eighty percent chance of rain completely. The event showcased vessels ranging in length from six feet to more than 65 feet, from entry-level family cruisers to million dollar yachts. With 20 boats in -water and nearly 50 on-land, plus the latest in boating accessories, gear and gadgets, there was a little (or big) something for everyone. Feedback from the vendors and area businesses were the same: can we do this event every three weeks!?, there was a constant flow of traffic, this is just what we needed after the slow season, this is a great show, and a great venue, lets go bigger next year! The Marine Industries Association of Collier County would like to thank the sponsors Naples City Dock, Dalis Charters, Fishware Outfitters, Creative Events & Rentals, and Texas Tony s; thank you to the news teams at NBC/ ABC, Naples Daily News, and Florida Weekly for your support of our organization and the community; and a special thank you to Mayor Sorey and City Council members, participating MIACC members and volunteers, Neapolitan Enterprises, Roger Jacobsen of the Naples City Dock and the Discover Crayton Cove Association businesses and personnel that made this event a success. At a time when government regulations are expanding, the MIACC is striving to work with government - locally, statewide and nationally to protect equally all marine business concerns. Our goal is to inform our members how their business will be affected and how solutions can be reached if new regulations are at odds with marine business interests. In addition, it is equally important to work with the public in preserving their right to safe and fun boating. The MIACC works with educators and safety organizations to educate the public to practice safe boating. The MIACC also encourages members to put in place hands-on environmental business practices that will prevent pollution and damage to our coastal waters thus protecting boaters enjoyment of healthy waterways and ensuring a sustainable future for the environment and the marine industry. MIPAC Quarterly Contributions Marine Industries Promoting Access for Citizens In 2002 the Marine Industries Association of Collier County formed a Political Action Committee named Marine Industries Promoting Access for Citizens (MIPAC). This action was taken so that we can support issues and legislative candidates who assist the goals and purposes of the marine industries community. On a quarterly basis, the MIPAC seeks donations of $50.00 from Upcoming Events each member. The MIPAC s missions and goals are to act upon problematic issues that must be addressed at the legislative level for the growth and protection of the marine industry. Monies collected from the MIPAC donations are used in supporting political decision makers that will tackle the very issues that affect all members of our industry. As a good steward of our member s donations, MIPAC adheres to uniform contribution criteria when determining how much and to which candidate assistance is allocated. MIPAC will educate you about the political landscape and issues facing our organization and will strategize political impact. In addition, the committee is always open to suggestions, questions and comments. Please send your quarterly donations to MIPAC, PO Box 9887, Naples, Florida 34101 4th Quarter Requests Available NOW!
