October 2018 Happy October! October is Canadian Library Month. This year we will be celebrating Ontario Public Library Week with programs and events for the whole family. We have special story times, fun with our green screen, an author reading and more! 1 on 1 Tech Training Our Information and Digital Services Librarians offer FREE one hour 1-on-1 Tech Training. Sessions are available Monday Friday. Book your session at 705-645-4171. Microsoft Excel Class coming next month! BPL will be offering a FREE class on Microsoft Excel for Library members. Little Van Gough Go s Fridays (no program on Oct. 26), 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM Registration required During this busy 6 week program, you and your child will explore a variety of music and movement and enjoy some messy creative artwork to take home (ages 2-4). PA Day Movie Friday, October 26, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM Movie: "Storks" Paws for Stories Monday, October 29, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM - Registration required An opportunity for children (ages 4-10) to read stories to a trained therapy dog in a one-on-one setting! Each child will get a 15 minute appointment with Louie the Golden Doodle to read stories and enjoy his company. Tech Tip It can be hard to find the right balance with technology. The library has some great resources for parents who are looking to help their children find how technology fits in their lives. Tween and Teen Library Programs Teen Book Club Tuesday, October 2, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Teen Book Club will be meeting every other week. The theme of this month is fantasy books. Teen Dungeons and Dragons - For beginners! Thursdays, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM New to DnD? We ve partnered with Dr. Comics to bring a new beginners DnD club to the library! We ll be starting from scratch: building characters and setting out on our first campaign. Join in every Thursday after school starting September 13th! Teen Read Week October 14-20 With every checkout during Teen Read Week, Teens will receive a ballot for a chance to win a gift certificate for Momma Bears Ice-cream and Sweets Shop. Pumpkin spice latte anyone? Thanks to the Friends of BPL for sponsoring the prize. Ontario Public Library Week Photo Contest Enter the OPLW Photo Contest to win awesome prizes! From the Library Ontario Public Library Week In celebration of Ontario Public Library Week, we are offering Amnesty Week from Oct. 15 20. This is your chance to return any of those long-overdue BPL materials. Upon check-in, the cost of the item and related fines owing will be deleted from your account. (Please note: this does not apply to fines owing for material returned prior to this Amnesty Week.) Sign up for a Behind the Scenes tour with Library CEO, Cathryn Rodney. A big thank you goes out to Bracebridge's cinema organization, Spinning Reels, for their donation to the Library of $1000. This money will be used to purchase new DVDs for our collection - all available to borrow for free with a Bracebridge Public Library card. Featured Library Service Did you know we have a Visiting Library Service? We have a great group of volunteers who choose, deliver, and return books for people who are not able to make it into the Library. Want to volunteer? Contact the library for an application and information on getting a police check. Know someone who needs the service? Have them call Ruth at 705-645-4171 to get matched with one of our volunteers.
