Introduction Along with nursing care theories, nursing education system and education models are essential in designing, implementing and evaluating effective nursing education programs. Nursing educators and policy makers have been actively advocating reform and improvements in nursing education system to meet the changing needs of health and clinical settings through continuous evaluation of education programs. Evaluation of education system is a systematic way of learning from experience and using the lessons learned to improve current activities and promote better planning by careful selection of alternatives for future action. This involves a critical analysis of different aspects of the development and implementation of aneducation system and the activities that constitute the education system, its relevance, its formulation, its efficiency and effectiveness, its costs and its acceptance by all parties involved. The evaluation of nursing education system and training programmes concerns all aspects of the institution and its programmes, including clinical practice and support. The evaluation of the nursing programmes therefore seeks to ensure that the education system is consistent with the nursing care needs of the community in terms of professional competence, ethical behaviour, cost effectiveness, accessibility, promotion of public health, and benefit to the community, among other aspects. In addition, it meets the quality requirements of the nursing schools in terms of the necessary human, material, physical (infrastructure) and financial resources, the process of staff recruitment, development and retention. The best way to decide on the purpose of the evaluation is to identify all who might use the evaluation results, and then to discuss with them what they want the evaluation to do, how they would use the results, what difference the information would make, and whether it would be possible to do something about the problems disclosed by the evaluation. 2 P a g e
