2015 The 4th New Jersey North South Senior Softball All-Star Game June 8, 2015, 6 PM Ivy Hill Park Essex County Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field
JIM MacDONALD St. Mary s Rutherford Honorary Coach of the North Team (Posthumously) There may never have been a more well-liked person on the North Jersey softball scene than Jim MacDonald, who died on June 10, 2014 at age 78. Jim was a graduate of Dwight Morrow High, attended Seton Hall and Fairleigh Dickinson, served three years in the Marine Corps and worked for General Felt Industries. But he was better known to generations of softball players as Coach Mac, a man who loved to coach, teach and offer an encouraging word. He started his time as a volunteer assistant coach at St. Mary s (Rutherford) in 1987, working with head coach Frank Venezia. Coach Mac stayed there as an assistant for 25 years, during a time in which the Gaels won 14 league titles, five North Jersey, Parochial B championships, one Bergen County title and one Parochial B state crown. St. Mary s went 434-151 during those years, including a string of 137 straight league wins from 1994 through 2001. Coach Mac, who also coached with the Clifton Charmers travel team for 15 years, was also a highly-sought pitching coach, and was always a source of encouragement for any player or coach who needed it. He received many awards during the years, including Unsung Hero Award from the Bergen County Women s Coaches Association, which he received in 2010 for inspiring and educating female student-athletes. The Super 36 committee is proud to honor Jim MacDonald for his love and support for softball and the athletes who played the game.
DEB HAUTH Rancocas Valley Honorary Coach of the South Team Deb Hauth, who retired last year after a long teaching and coaching career at Rancocas Valley, is one of the winningest coaches in South Jersey history. Aside from her many victories at her high school alma mater, her teams also won championships. Most notable were her 26-1 team in 1994 that won the Group 3 state title, and the 2005 squad that was 31-2 and Group 4 state champion. Both of those teams ended No. 1 in the Star-Ledger Top 20, making her one of only five public school coaches in state history to lead multiple Star-Ledger Trophy-winning teams. She was the South Jersey Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2005, and was later inducted into their Hall of Fame. She was also inducted into the Hall of Fame at Rancocas Valley. The Super 36 committee is proud to honor Deb Hauth for her years of success in building the Rancocas Valley program and for helping to shape the lives of her players and student body as a teacher, coach and administrator over her decades of service at the Mount Holly school.
