IEEE Canada Quick Facts Result of 1994 merger between Region 7 and Canadian Society of Electrical & Computer Engineers IEEE is the Canadian arm (as R7) of IEEE IEEE Canada is the constituent society of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) for the technical fields of electrical, electronics, and computer engineering We tend to pull above our weight class (awards, Fellows, financial & volunteer resources, milestones) Region 7 is currently the second smallest IEEE region with 16,242 members at the close of July 2014 representing under 5% of IEEE membership The Region has 15 IEEE Milestones (10% of the total IEEE Milestones) 8
Sections and Organizing Units Operates 20 sections (local organizations) arranged in 3 areas (Western, Central, and Eastern Canada), as well as over 50 student branches and 27 active committees (e.g. TISP, WIE, Young Pros, LM) some sections have been around 100+ years! 9
More Quick Facts R7 operates three annual conferences hosted in different cities across Canada, publishes an electronic newsletter, a general interest magazine, and a technical journal, recognizes the individual achievements of its members through an extensive program of awards, promotes student growth by providing scholarships, grants, and McNaughton Centres through the IEEE Canadian Foundation, and keeps student volunteers engaged through an annual Student Congress, provides resources to assist members in upgrading their knowledge base and professional skills, 10 partners with The Personal for group insurance.
