The leading hub for biomedical research in Southern Europe Between 2013 and 2016, a total of 175 NEW COMPANIES were set up in the field of biomedicine and health sciences in BARCELONA 95 of which were spin-offs from hospitals and research centres Barcelona is the innovation capital of Southern Europe, holding key positions in the field of biomedicine and information and communications technology. 3. A great National Health System Spain has the most efficient public health system in the world, according to Bloomberg. It has a broad portfolio of universal and free access services, with a full pharmaceutical provision. The national health system has more than 13,144 primary health care centers, a large emergencies network, 453 public hospitals, 340 private hospitals and 21,832 pharmacies. There are more than 112,000 medical professionals and 164,000 nursing professionals with a high professional qualification and specialization.
