KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC. TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP SINCE 1911 SOUTHWESTERN PROVINCE 39 th C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference Rebirth, Reclaim, Recommit by Leaving No Brother Behind Courtyard by Marriott Starkville, Mississippi September 21 23, 2017

Southwestern Province Polemarch Welcome September 21, 2017 Welcome Brothers of the Mighty Southwestern Province! Brother C. Rodger Wilson possessed the wisdom to know that the lifeblood of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., its undergraduates, needed to be trained to not only sustain this great Fraternity, but also to lead the world into the unknown future. It is time to show ourselves approved to lead. Here at the 39th C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference, we will participate in leadership training modules and grasp the knowledge available from officer workshops. As an excellent trend, the number of registrants for this conference has exceeded 500. The Columbus (MS) Alumni and the Eta Upsilon Chapters anxiously await the arrival of their fellow Kappa brothers. The Mississippi State University officials have graciously offered the campus facilities to house our conference. Experience the fruits of the local chapters preparation and let s have an excellent C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference! I pray for everyone s continued traveling grace and again, thank you for the opportunity to be your servant leader of the greatest province in all of Kappa! Yours in the Bond, Theron A. Hightower 26 th Polemarch

Southwestern Province Officers Theron A. Hightower Province Polemarch William Puder Senior Province Vice Polemarch Junior Province Vice Polemarch Mark Gallashaw Keeper of Records Ryan Gilner Keeper of Exchequer Justice D. Robinson Undergraduate Luncheon Speaker Justice Darnell Robinson was born in Houston, Texas on December 22, 1994. He is 22 years of age and currently a senior at Prairie View A&M University with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Music. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Justice entered into a Speech tournament for the Communications Department and won 1st place, speaking about financial aid and parental control over those aspects of money in college. Justice was part of the drum line of Prairie View A&M University for 3 years, while also concurrently serving as the jazz band drummer for 2 year. He was determined to further his career in motivational speaking and mentoring, so he decided to work for the Boys and Girls Club of America and became a Youth Developmental Specialist. He is still currently working there and has started a saying for the youth along with his line brother Christopher Butler Day called Apply the Pressure, which is enabling students to stay uplifted despite the hardships they may face. Justice continues to be the drummer for multiple artists on and off campus, and is also a mentor for many students on campus. HISTORY OF THE C. RODGER WILSON LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Do most of us know who C. Rodger Wilson was, and why our meeting is named as such? Kappa Alpha Psi under the leadership of Brother Charles Rodger Wilson, sixteenth Grand Polemarch and recipient of the Laurel Wreath, accomplished many things during his tenure as Grand Polemarch. Prior to his election he had already served the fraternity for thirty-five years in various capacities. He has the longest tenure as Grand Polemarch in the history of Kappa Alpha Psi. During his administration the theme Training for Leadership was adopted. That theme still holds true today. The story begins in 1942 when C. Rodger Wilson actually began his Guide Right Dictatorship with a message to the membership titled, Brand New Ideas about Guide Right. He knew then that Guide Right was considered to be the Fraternity s National Program, and he wanted to make the program meaningful and effective. The objectives set forth in the Guide Right Promotional Bulletin stated as the Movement s Purpose: 1) to help black boys, especially those graduating elementary or high school classes to relate further study to vocational choices best suited to their aptitudes and personalities; 2) to encourage cooperative attitudes towards school, home, and community; and 3) to assist young men to start and progress in their chosen careers. It s amazing that although these were the goals that were written during the time of C. Rodger Wilson s tenure the themes and goals are similar to those of today. The goal of the C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference is to prepare the Leaders of Tomorrow, whether that is in the fraternity, job, or community. The theme Training for Leadership had been used to describe the goals of the fraternity, but by 1957 the membership wanted the theme to be implemented. The implementation came from Grand Polemarch C. Rodger Wilson that a national program in the undergraduate interest includes a formalized school of leadership training, and hence The Charles Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference (CRWLC) was born. The items we discuss today at our meetings encompass the curriculum our brothers planned on being discussed. Plans were ultimately underway and the first undergraduate leadership conference occurred in 1961. At the 62 nd Grand Chapter Meeting in Chicago in 1979, just a few weeks after the sudden and unexpected death of C. Rodger Wilson, the Undergraduate Leadership Conference was renamed the C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference in his honor. Call to Order Invocation Occasion Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated Training For Leadership Since 1911 39 th Southwestern Province C. Since he began his academic career at Prairie View A&M University in the fall of 2014, he has made the Dean s List each semester. His academic achievements have lead him to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars as well as Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society for the department of language and communications. Damarquis remained productive in his department and became the president of K-Hill TV, the campus news station. He also joined the National Association of Black Journalists and served as an executive board member, and was selected to represent the chapter at the national convention in Washington D.C. in 2016. Along with his participation in those organizations, he has established himself as a photographer and videographer on campus. He has coordinated media projects for Career Services, Campus Activity Board, the Department of Language and Communications, Greek Organizations, The Campus Newspaper, and many students. He has also provided his services for the University of Texas Austin, TV One, American Campus Communities, and many local Houston businesses. In the spring of 2016, Damarquis was initiated into the Zeta Beta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Shortly after, he was nominated as Chapter Historian. Due to his high level of academic achievement, he was selected to attend the Undergraduate Leadership Institute in the summer of 2016, where he graduated from the Eta Klass. Following that summer, he designed the chapter s very first published magazine titled Inside the Zoo, leading to his nomination of Photographer of the Year at the PV Choice Awards. He was also elected as the Southwestern Province Junior Vice Polemarch. Since becoming an executive officer, he served as the Communications Media Coordinator for 2017 Kappa Kamp, and the Undergraduate Coordinator for the 2017 C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference.
