Posted: Thursday, May 19, 2016 6:08 pm Updated: 6:36 pm, Thu May 19, 2016. By Amy Crawford, Sun Staff Writer Sometimes, it pays to be a show-off. Six Arizona Western College students won scholarships in the annual Student Showcase at the college on Wednesday. The annual event for AWC and Northern Arizona University-Yuma students allows them to share their scholarship and talents in an informal, interactive environment, AWC said in a news release. This year, about 80 students participated in the showcase in the 3C North building. During the event students shared poster presentations; fine arts performances; science and mathematical applications; ceramics, painting; traditional conferencestyle paper presentations; and much more. With support from the Gowan Company, showcase participants were eligible to apply for scholarships in each of AWC s five general education focus areas. This year s recipients are: communication: Paloma Jauregui ($1,000); scientific literacy: Ben Watson ($1,000); digital literacy: Jossue Cerda ($500) and Paola Chavez ($500); civic discourse: Tuan Nguyen ($1,000); and quantitative analysis: Hassan Martinez ($1,000). By Ayush Singh Published on May 31, 2016 Investorsguide.com It seems like the bankruptcy of SunEdison (SUNE) has rocked the entire solar sector and many of the big names of the solar industry have underperformed the market since SunEdison went under. Solar industry has always been regarded as an unsafe and risky, and with the likes of SolarCity (SCTY) and First Solar (FSLR) reporting terrible earnings, investors skepticism has grown further. SolarCity is probably the worst stock in the entire solar industry and its underperformance wasn t surprising at all. While my recent trading calls on SolarCity have resulted in over 70% profits in just over a few weeks, I did not expect First Solar to pullback as much as it did. Following the company s earnings release, shares of First Solar have plunged over 10%. Moreover, First Solar is down about 30% from its 52-time high levels. While I find the downfall astounding, I think it has opened a great opportunity for long-term investors. For me, First Solar is the best stock in the industry, which is why I think the recent pullback is a massive opportunity. Shares of First Solar plunged after the company reported its Q1 earnings and missed on revenue estimates by a wide margin. First Solar reported EPS of $1.66, way ahead of the consensus of $0.93 per share. In addition, the company s sales also grew over 80% on a year over year basis to $848 million. Despite the stunning revenue growth, First Solar missed the analysts estimates on revenue by $118 million. However, the revenue miss wasn t as bad as the market is making it out to be. First Solar s guidance for the full year is still the same, whereas the company also revised the bottom-end of its earnings guidance. First Solar now expects 2016 EPS of $4.10-$4.50 as opposed to the earlier guidance of $4.00-$4.50. Analysts are still expecting the company to post EPS of $4.30 for current fiscal year which falls comfortably in the guidance range. On the revenue front, First Solar still expects 2016 revenue of $3.8 billion to $4 billion, and the consensus of $3.96 billion is at the high end of its guidance range. First Solar s reaffirmed revenue guidance shows that the revenue miss was a one-time thing which was primarily caused by the timing of systems revenue recognition across multiple projects, partially offset by higher revenue from the Desert Stateline project." First Solar will likely make up for this miss in the upcoming quarter, which is why I think the recent pullback will be short-lived and is a great opportunity for investors to buy the stock. 3

Published On: Tue, Apr 28th, 2015 Finance By Michael Burns www.raisersandfallers.com On Thursday the automobile giant General Motors is planning to announce a several billion dollar, multiyear investment plan that they will enforce in several United States manufacturing plants as they feel that by doing this they will achieve better vehicle quality and boost production, a person close to GM revealed. General Motors has scheduled an official press conference at their stamping plant in Pontiac, Michigan, where they plan to make a major United States manufacturing announcement. The largest automaker from the United States should reveal plans to make capital investments in equipment and plants, which includes stamping plants and body shops. Analysts expect this capital investment will create jobs but they are still uncertain of how many, due to the company not revealing details of the investment. This announcement comes at a time when the United Auto Workers union and General Motors are getting ready to negotiate a new master contract this fall for GM s hourly workers whose numbers are roughly 50,000. Leaders of UAW have pushed that the automakers from Detroit invest in factories which are union represented. GM has a budget of 9 billion dollars ready for global capital spending this year up by 2 billion as opposed to the last year s 7 billion dollars. With this money the company plans to pay for investments in new technology and vehicle launches. In the past the company spent two thirds of its capital outlay in North America and officials claim that it will remain the same this year. The departments that will receive investment have not been named but it is very likely that one of them will be the Pontiac stamp company at which the announcement will be made. This plant in particular stamps metal parts for about 20 different vehicle models. The company has stated that they plan on investing in the Texas plant to fund upgrades; however no decision has been made yet. Automakers from Detroit are being very cautious of expanding production too quickly in North America, as it could risk undoing gains in the earnings that they have achieved since they made drastic cuts during the financial crisis. Both rival companies and General Motors have instead been looking to increase the output at the already existing plants by using additional shifts, investments to improve efficiency and overtime. General Motors CEO Mary Barra. 4
