NREMT CERTIFICATION CARDS UPDATED FOR 2012 1
National EMS Certification cards have been updated for 2012. Please note the changes - all horizontal bands on the card are blue. The lettering within NREMT logo and the phrase 'National EMS Certification' are the only items in red. The provider level will reflect the current level of the EMS provider - First Responder, EMR, EMT-Basic, EMT, Intermediate/85, AEMT, Intermediate/99, EMT-Paramedic. SCHEDULING GROUP TESTING AT PEARSON VUE TEST CENTERS During the NREMT's initial transition from pencil-paper examinations to computerbased testing and web-based scheduling, some education programs inquired about "group testing." Group testing is when a program director establishes examination reservations for an entire class or group of candidates. In 2010, when the NREMT negotiated the renewal of our contract with Pearson VUE, we agreed to implement two service charges for non-standard scheduling in order to keep examination fees the same for everyone else. These charges focus on scheduling examinations by phone ($10.00 per call) and cancelling or rescheduling appointments ($25.00 per incident). The new service charges require behavior modification by applicants compared to past practices. The NREMT has well publicized these changes. They allow examination fees for the vast majority of candidates to remain at the same level they have been since the launch of CBT exams in 2007 and through the end of the current contract in 2016. Each Pearson VUE reservation is a seat held for an "individual candidate" and not a group of unidentified candidates. Because group reservations are completed by 2
phone, the fee of $10.00 per individual applies. Example: if 10 people want to test as a group and hold ten seats where no other Pearson VUE customer can use that seat, there will be a service charge of $100.00 for the group. It is important to realize that if groups have candidates who subsequently cancel or reschedule their appointments, the individual candidates will be responsible for the service charges, just as if they had scheduled an individual appointment themselves. If a candidate is a 'No Show' for his or her scheduled appointment, all examination and service charges are forfeited. Should a 'group' candidate need to have his or her appointment cancelled or rescheduled, the $25.00 cancellation/rescheduling service charge will need to be paid before the change can be completed. It is our desire to alert those who wish to continue group scheduling of these service charges. Reminder: One benefit of Computer Based Testing (CBT) is it allows each individual to establish his or her own appointment time [when they feel they are prepared]. Group scheduling can only be done through Pearson VUE, with the payment of the relevant fees. If your program desires to test all candidates as a "group," you will need to contact Pearson VUE directly at 1-866-673-6896. The NREMT staff does not schedule candidates and will no longer facilitate group testing. NREMT BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEEKS EMS EDUCATOR APPLICATIONS The National Registry of EMTs (NREMT), the Nation's EMS Certification, announces an open At-Large EMS Educator position on their Board of Directors. Interested educators should have active experience in EMS education, local and national-level EMS leadership experience, and previous involvement in NREMT activities is desirable. The Registry is currently part of the EMS licensure process in 46 States and all branches of the US Military. The NREMT examines about 130,000 EMS personnel annually. The mission of the NREMT is to help protect the public by providing a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice required by EMS professionals throughout their careers and by maintaining a registry of certification status. Board membership requires attendance at two meetings per year (a one-day meeting in June and a two-day meeting in November, usually in Columbus, OH) as well as committee work, including additional meetings and conference calls. The NREMT Board of Directors develops national registration/certification policies and procedures and oversees the mission of the Registry. Those interested in serving on the Board should send a cover letter and curriculum vitae to Jimm Murray, Nominations Committee Chairman, NREMT, P.O. Box 3
29233, Columbus, OH 43229 by April 15, 2012. The Nominations Committee will prepare a slate of candidates from responses received, and one new EMS Educator will be elected to a four-year term by the full Board of Directors at the June meeting.
