Hayes, AICP, City Manager Debbie Tuttle, Economic Development Manager & NURA Executive Director August Economic Development Report Huron Center Groundbreaking A groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 24 th to celebrate the revitalization of the 105,322-square-foot Huron Center shopping center located at 104 th Avenue and Huron Street. Project construction has begun and the exterior construction is scheduled to be complete the first quarter of 2018, and the opening of new stores by the summer. Council, NURA members, city staff, and property owners celebrate official ground breaking for the $10 Million Huron Center revitalization project. New KFC Coming Soon KFC will be demoing its 49 year-old existing building located at 10790 Washington, and will be constructing a new 3,161 square-foot drive-thru restaurant at the same location on the.57 acre site. The restaurant will be a new and modern design. They plan to begin construction this winter and open in spring 2018. Adams County Ranked 8th in the Nation for Economic Growth A recent Oxford Economics forecast of county-level economic growth for the next five years ranked Adams County eighth in the nation. Adams County Site Selection Summit Adams County Economic Development (ACED), in partnership with the Site Selection Guild, hosted a three day Site Selection Summit to showcase Adams County and its communities. The event highlighted developments, opportunities, and the success of regional partnerships in Metro Denver. The Summit hosted five national site selection consultants who specialize in Aerospace, Aviation, Bio/Life Sciences, Energy and Manufacturing. Also, a writer from Site Selection magazine attended covering the Summit for National site selectors give feedback on how Adams County compares to our peer communities. an upcoming edition. This was a great opportunity for Adams County communities to not only highlight their assets, development opportunities and regional collaborative spirit, but also to get feedback from site selection professionals on how we compare to our peer communities across the country and the world. Lunch N Learn: Facebook On July 27 th, the Northglenn business Lunch & Learn was attended by 23 people. Kendra Fernandez, owner and director of Rebel Marketing Group presented an hour-long workshop on how to effectively build and use Facebook business pages and groups. Northglenn businesses learn techniques on how to market on Facebook. NURA Updates The following resolutions were approved by the NURA board at the August 9 th regular board meeting: 1. 2017 New Business Announcements At the end of July, Northglenn had a total of 931 businesses. Of that total, 727 are storefronts and 204 are home-based businesses. This year Northglenn has announced 27 new storefront businesses, reporting 242 jobs, and absorbing 101,776 square feet of office, industrial and retail space. 2016 North Metro Small Business Center The North Metro Small Business Development Center (SBDC) partners with the Northglenn s Economic Development division to provide consulting, training programs, and resources to assist existing and new business in our area. The two charts below show that in 2016, within the two major zip code areas of Northglenn that 80 businesses utilized the North Metro SBDC, with 277 consulting sessions, and a total of 237 hours of time was spent with companies. Note: The significant increase in the Economic Development page views is due to the reorganization of Business and Economic Development website pages. This rate is lower than last year at this time (4%). This rate is up from 2.7% in May, and slightly higher than the state average at 2.6%, but nearly on par with the county average at 2.8%.
