Jeffery N. Lucas, Esq., PLS is in private practice in Birmingham, Alabama. Lucas has been in the surveying business since 1976. He is a licensed land surveyor registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. Lucas is a licensed attorney and member of the Alabama State Bar since 2003. Lucas specializes in land boundary issues as an attorney, land surveyor, consultant, mediator and expert witness. He has been a seminar leader on surveying topics that include ALTA/ACSM standards, boundary law, law of easements, water boundaries, surveying evidence and procedures, expert witness testimony, business law, contract law, torts and liability. He has over 30 titles that he has developed in his seminar library. Lucas is the author of Alabama Boundary Law; The Pincushion Effect, The Multiple Monument Dilemma in American Land Surveying, and the Illinois Boundary Law. He has also authored over 100 articles on surveying and boundary issues and writes a regular column for P.O.B. Magazine. Dr. Joseph V.R. Paiva, is principal and CEO at GeoLearn LLC (www.geo-learn.com), an online provider of professional and technical education since February 2014. He previously served as a consultant in the field of geomatics and general business, particularly to international developers, manufacturers and distributors of instrumentation and other geomatics tools. In that role Joe functioned as COO at Gatewing NV, a Belgian manufacturer of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for surveying and mapping during 2010-2011. He also is a writer in many magazines and journals and has been on the seminar circuit, delivering continuing education to geospatial professionals, as well as technician and exam preparation courses. Joe was previously managing director of Spatial Data Research, Inc., a GIS data collection, compilation and software development company; senior scientist and technical advisor for Land Survey Research & Development, VP of the Land Survey Group, and director of business development for the Engineering and Construction Division of Trimble; vice president and a founder of Sokkia Technology, Inc., guiding development of GPS- and software-based products for surveying, mapping, measurement and positioning. Other positions include senior technical management positions in The Lietz Co. and Sokkia Co. Ltd., assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and partner in a surveying/civil engineering consulting firm. He has continued his interest in teaching by serving as an adjunct instructor of online credit and non-credit courses at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and currently, the State Technical College of Missouri. His key contributions in the development field are: design of software flow for the SDR2, SDR20 series and SDR33 Electronic Field Books and software interface for the Trimble TTS500 total station. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor, licensed as an FAA remote pilot, was an ACSM representative to the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), serving as a program evaluator, and for six years as EAC commissioner and team chair, and has more than 30 years experience working in civil engineering, surveying and mapping. He has written for POB and The Empire State Surveyor magazines and has been a past contributor of columns to Civil Engineering News. Dennis Mouland, PLS Dennis is a registered professional surveyor in Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management, and has been in the surveying profession since 1972. His experience is evenly split between the private sector, including his own surveying firm, and federal government employment. Dennis has been an instructor and course manager for the BLM/Forest Service Advanced Cadastral School and most recently served as the National Cadastral Training Coordinator for BLM in Phoenix, AZ. In that position he developed the Certified Federal Surveyors Program for the Department of the Interior. In addition to having over 300 technical articles published in the U.S. and Canada, Dennis is a contributing author to the textbook The Surveying Handbook, and authored Ethics for the Professional Surveyor in 1996, now in its third printing. He has conducted seminars for the surveying and real estate professions since 1984. To date, Dennis has instructed over 100,000 students on boundary survey subjects. Dennis has taught boundary law subjects in higher education institutions since 1995, and is currently a Surveying Instructor at the University of Wyoming and Oklahoma State University.
